No Blood for Tundra
Democrats are notorious for their simplistic and trite slogans that trivialize complex and serious issues. The most famous is Bill Clinton’s “It’s the economy stupid.” The Democrats are experts at hiding the important issue and their true agenda behind a catchy diversionary and misleading sound-bite catch- phrase. Democrats don’t say, “George Bush Raised taxes and therefore caused a recession,” because that would debunk their bazaar myth that increasing taxes is good for the economy as if Herbert Hoover taught them nothing.
Democrats claim Republicans are “mean spirited” and want to “starve women and children” instead of saying Republicans want to “end the cycle of poverty and help people become self-reliant productive members of society.” Isn’t it funny how Bill Clinton was never called “mean spirited” when he finally saw it the Republican’s way and signed welfare reform?
Democrats will claim “vouchers will rob the public schools of money” instead of saying “vouchers will give your child the opportunity to attend the school Bill Clinton’s daughter attended.” Also, I thought Democrats were the party of “choice?” I guess when is comes to social security, Medicare and schools, choice is nothing more than a meaningless slogan to Democrats. As far as these issues go, their slogan should be “do as I say not as I do.” Even with abortion they play the name game. Instead of saying “we support killing the baby as it is being born by puncturing its skull, sucking its brains out and collapsing its cranium,” they sanitize this procedure by referring to it simply as “dilation and extraction.”
Most dangerous and irresponsible however is their delusionally idealistic and utopian mantra “no blood for oil.” The more accurate statement should be “no blood for tundra,” because the reason we have to rely on the Middle-East for oil is because environmental groups prevent the exploration, drilling, and development of domestic sources of oil. 2000 acres of barren Arctic tundra in ANWR is said to contain as much oil as the US has imported from Saudi Arabia over the last 20 years, and yet it sits idle while we send troops to die in Iraq. It takes on a whole different perspective when you realize people are dying to protect a huge uninhabited snow drift miles away from anything, and contrary to conventional wisdom including the cherished caribou herds. Until Al Gore “invents” a hydrogen powered car, or people start riding bikes to work, America will continue to need oil whether the environmentalists like it or not.
This irresponsibility does not go unnoticed however as demonstrated by the recent temporary closure of a major oil loading facility in Alaska due to terrorism fears. Terrorists hoping to inflict severe economic harm on America know that all they need to do is cause a minor oil spill, and the environmentalists will do the rest. The “useful idiots” as V. Lenin referred to them will fight the war from within by insisting that the US abandon Alaska oil drilling all together, thus forcing even more dependence on the Middle-East resulting in even more funding for terrorist organizations.
America needs to demand more from our leaders than simply catchy slogans. America needs to demand realistic and timely solutions, not unrealistic Utopian visions. Until the environmental groups and their democratic supporters start producing alternatives to the internal combustion engine America needs to focus on addressing the “clear and present dangers” facing it today instead of allowing itself to be held hostage by the blind faith cult of environmental extremism. If America truly needs catch slogans, they should be “show me the money” or “put up or shut up.” Until environmentalists start producing more than just global warming carbon dioxide laden obstructionist hot air, America should ignore their Utopian siren song and stop sacrificing “blood for tundra.”
