If you'd pull your head of
your
the sand you would realize that climate scientists fully recognize the role that the sun plays in warming the planet and that Milankovich cycles -- which results in less solar radiation falling on the earth's surface-- causes ice ages and the warming period between ice ages.
You left out this part of the article:
"So if Lockwood is correct, while the general temperature trend in the northern hemisphere will increase in line with global warming over the coming decades, northern Europe can look forward to some more harsh winters."
In spite of decrease in solar output the planet will continue to warm up.

I guess peer review ain't what it used to be..
IPCC Gets ‘Fs’ on 21 of 44 Chapters [Greg Pollowitz]
NoConsensus.org:
TORONTO — 21 of 44 chapters in the United Nations' Nobel-winning climate bible earned an F on a report card released today. Forty citizen auditors from 12 countries examined 18,500 sources cited in the report — finding 5,600 to be not peer-reviewed.
Contrary to statements by the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the celebrated 2007 report does not rely solely on research published in reputable scientific journals. It also cites press releases, newspaper and magazine clippings, student theses, newsletters, discussion papers, and literature published by green advocacy groups. Such material is often called "grey literature."
"We've been told this report is the gold standard," says Canadian blogger Donna Laframboise, who organized the online crowdsourcing effort to examine the references. "We've been told it's 100 percent peer-reviewed science. But thousands of sources cited by this report have been nowhere near a scientific journal."
Based on the grading system used in US schools, 21 chapters in the IPCC report receive an F (they cite peer-reviewed sources less than 60% of the time), 4 chapters get a D, and 6 get a C. There are also 5 Bs and 8 As.

IPCC AR4 Gets Straight As.
A little honesty goes a long way.
You have to go past the headlines -- Don't rely on the National Review to give you an accurate account.
Look at the scorecard provided here:
http://www.noconsensus.org/ipcc-audit/IPCC-report-card.php
It's Working Group 3 that they focus on.
The technical science is in Working Group 1 papers -- that's the IPCC AR3 assessment that counts. That report gets straight As

Second expert panel shows
"ClimateGate" was a ClimateSham
An independent panel of experts in the United Kingdom has released a report finding there to be, "no evidence of any deliberate scientific malpractice in any of the work of the Climatic Research Unit and had it been there we believe that it is likely that we would have detected it."
The inquiry was headed by former Chair of the House of Lords science and technology select committee, Lord Oxburgh.
As reported in the Economist today, "The scientists in 'climategate' did not fudge the data."

It would be nice to see an investigation of those who stole the emails and of those who used them to manufacture, out of nothing, a "scandal."
It would be interesting if the critics of global warming were to display a bit of transparency in their dealings.

Computer models...is there anything they can't do?
Airlines Blame Flawed Computer Modeling For Up To $1.7 Billion Loss
The Met Office has been blamed for triggering the “unnecessary” six-day closure of British airspace which has cost airlines, passengers and the economy more than £1.5 billion.–The Telegraph 19 April, 2010
…
Global airlines have lost about $1.7bn of revenue as a result of the disruptions caused by the Icelandic volcanic eruption, a body has said. Giovanni Bisignani, chief executive of IATA, criticised governments for the haste with which they closed airspace, and called on them to provide compensation to the airlines. “Airspace was being closed based on theoretical models, not on facts. Test flights by our members showed that the models were wrong.” –BBC, 21 April 2010
…
We are becoming a risk-averse society and that is dangerous. You cannot run a national economy on the precautionary principle; indeed, the sound position is to embrace as much risk as possible. Societies that embrace risk, such as the United States and recently the UK, tend to thrive, while those that seek to minimise risk, such as Britain during the 1970s, tend to wither. Financial capital is now fleeing Britain, heading to the Far East. A long queue of companies is chasing the money, including our own Prudential, which is floating a business on the Chinese stock market. The true venturers are over there, not in Britain. –The Times, 21 April 2010
…
Rational decisions have to be taken on the basis of some empirical understanding of the risks involved, and on the balance between risk and reward (or the cost of avoiding risk). Exposing the nonsense and muddle of the so-called precautionary principle is an essential part of the GWPF’s declared mission ‘to bring reason, integrity and balance to a climate debate that has become seriously unbalanced, irrationally alarmist, and all too often depressingly intolerant’. If the argument now raging over the policy response to the volcanic ash clouds assists in achieving this, it will demonstrate that ash clouds, too, have a silver lining. –The Global Warming Policy Foundation, 20 April 2010

This is rich...but perfectly understandable since the station data is probably registering near the melting point of lead. I say give these people a PhD in climate science...they are clearly more than qualified.
Another polar rescue must send chills down spines of alarmists
TOM Smitheringale wanted to prove the world was warming. Now he's another alarmist with frostbite.
The 40-year-old from Perth planned to be the first Australian to trek unassisted to the North Pole, but announced he'd raise some consciousness along the way.
As he wrote on his website: "Part of the reason Tom's One Man Epic is taking place now is because of the effect that global warming is having on the polar ice caps."
Indeed, he wanted to see the North Pole while it was still there: "Some scientists have even estimated that the polar ice cap will have entirely melted away by 2014!"
Have your say at Andrew's blog
But Antarctica isn't melting away, and Arctic ice has slowly increased since its big low in 1997.
But no one seems to have told Tom, who soon found his extremities freezing.

Read the whole sordid thing...
The $10 Trillion Climate Fraud
Cap-And-Trade: While senators froth over Goldman Sachs and derivatives, a climate trading scheme being run out of the Chicago Climate Exchange would make Bernie Madoff blush. Its trail leads to the White House.
Lost in the recent headlines was Al Gore's appearance Monday in Denver at the annual meeting of the Council of Foundations, an association of the nation's philanthropic leaders.
"Time's running out (on climate change)," Gore told them. "We have to get our act together. You have a unique role in getting our act together."
Gore was right that foundations will play a key role in keeping the climate scam alive as evidence of outright climate fraud grows, just as they were critical in the beginning when the Joyce Foundation in 2000 and 2001 provided the seed money to start the Chicago Climate Exchange. It started trading in 2003, and what it trades is, essentially, air. More specifically perhaps, hot air.

Should this be under 'crime and corruption' or global warming? Hmm, tough choice.
Top Energy Official Has Green in Green [Daniel Foster]
Frequent NRO contributor Chris Horner breaks news on Assistant Secretary of Energy Cathy Zoi, former CEO of Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection. Zoi now manages billions of federal dollars for renewable energy, but retains — how could this be?!? — large financial stakes in companies in a position to benefit handsomely from her Department's policies:
Among Zoi’s holdings are shares in Serious Materials, Inc., the previously sleepy, now bustling, friend of the Obama White House whose public policy operation is headed by her husband. Between them, Zoi and her husband hold 120,000 shares in Serious Materials, as well as stock options. Reporter John Stossel has already explored what he sees as the “crony capitalism” implied by Zoi being so able to influence the fortunes of a company to which she is so closely associated.
In addition, the disclosure forms reflect that Zoi holds between $250,000 and $500,000 in “founders shares” in Landis+Gyr, a Swiss “smart meter” firm. She also still owns between $15,000 and $50,000 in ordinary shares.
Smart meters play a big part in the Obama administration's "smart grid" plans, the adoption of which would likely be a windfall for Zoi and Landis+Gyr.
Horner has more here.
Nor is Zoi alone. A while back, our own Stephen Spruiell detailed the Planet Gore / "Green Economy" cash nexus in the pages of NRODT (behind the paywall).

Cuccinelli targets grants to climate scientist
Quote
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is invoking a state anti-fraud law to demand the University of Virginia turn over years worth of documents related to climate scientist Michael Mann, targeting about $500,000 in grants that funded Mann's studies.

BS-ing
When you can't address the science;
When the science is on the other side is so strong;
Attack something else --- dig through all the emails to find something you can twist, reword, interpret to make it look like it says what it doesn't actually say but makes your opponent look bad.
Denial can get pretty ugly. Sometimes its better to face reality -- in this case the overwhelming scientific evidence behind the theory of global warming.
This is a new instance to add to the history of political-religious attacks on science.

I have been told since grade-school that Venus is hot because of a runaway greenhouse effect. I should have been suspicious since Carl Sagan was a major promoter of this idea. I am asking a thermodynamics expert to review this but the early indication is that the conventional (leftist) wisdom is rubbish.

The science is clear: Venus is hot because of the nature of its atmosphere -- it's called a greenhouse effect.
A colorful name. Not really analogous to what happens in an enclosed greenhouse.
Because temperatures are so high -- the poetic name is "runaway greenhouse effect".
The science is clear --its gases -- CO2 in the atmosphere that captures and holds solar energy. Without that sort of atmosphere it wouldn't be so warm on Venus.
If you want to call scientific wisdom, conventional wisdom that's fine. Don't call it leftist wisdom.
