I'm getting ready for a trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for a week at the beach in a place called Emerald Isle. It's an outstanding vacation spot, where you can rent some gorgeous homes right on the beach, or near the beach (cheaper), whatever you want. We rented a 5 bedroom home right on the beach. Can't wait.
I got an email from National Review today promoting my joining them on an upcoming Caribeean cruise they're putting on. Prompted the thought that we might put together a vacation package for next summer that our membership could join in. It would be cool for us political junkies to be able to just hang out together at the beach or on a boat for a week, relaxing, discussing, debating, eating, and imbibing.
Next summer sounds a long way away? Not really, as the months fly by quickly, and you have to make such reservations well in advance unless you want to end up with what happens to be leftover.
I personally would be up for doing something like this. We could gauge the amount of interest, meet to review the available venue options, and figure out how many going in to each house, hopefully getting them adjacent to each other. Cost is generally reasonable if you put enough people in the house to utilize all the beds. We'll be in a five bedroom place with a bunch of people, and the cost for the rental broke down to like $240 per person for the week. Good deal.
Here's a link to the place we rented, and the realtor in Emerald Isle who manages a vast array of properties down there. Site provides lots of photos, cost information, etc. Just go to their home page from this link, and from there you can explore the possibilities.
