I've started this thread to document the death of Columbus. It used to be a nice town. I grew up here, and have an affection for it. But the old gray mare ain't what she used to be. So here goes:
Profoundly stupid idea #1 Ameriflora
Stupid idea #2 Coleman -- The guy has had two fires in his home! How many people do you know who have had even one? Would it be too much to ask if the bad boys just left a horse's head on his bed some night? How much is it going to cost Columbus to get rid of this slime?
Stupid idea #3 Columbus Public Schools. How can an organization that does absolutely nothing get to be $60 million in the red?
Stupid idea #4 Converting the city to a third world refugee camp. Hey, I feel for people who are oppressed in their homes. If they have useful skills then let them come. If not, send them guns and let them change their own government in place. As a sidelight on this one, did ya see the request that Columbus send money to Somilia that made its way before city council a few months ago? Turned out that since Coleman had already squandered the rainy day fund hiring his circle of useless hangerons the Columbus had no money to send.
Stupid idea #5 Buying the old Lazarus building. Is it SEVEN years they plan to spend renovating it? Crime in Italy! Bulldoze it and build new. You be way under budget and be done 3 years sooner.
Stupid idea #6 Buying Northland. Same sorry deal At least they did flatten parts of it.

Well, I agree with you on everything except #1. I loved Ameriflora, and did it TWICE! My mother liked it, and so did my wife.
Perhaps it was an enormous waste of money, but it was a unique and interesting waste of money (unlike the other things you list).
