On Tuesday, March 2 we held our 4th Townhall Meet-Up at the Old Bag of Nails in Grandview.  It was another productive meeting.  We reviewed with the attendees our efforts to date to organize this group into an actual force in local political life, inclusive of the following:

This website has been established, providing an ongoing forum for members to interact in debate of the issues, as well as to keep them all up to date on Columbus Townhall activities.

Our Conservative Cavalry concept has been developed.  When events being put on by our leftist countrymen are identified, a battle cry is announced via the website and email to advise the membership.  Several events have been attended to date by the Cavalry, and we have made our voices heard.  The idea is to employ some of the activist tactics of the left to ensure that they do not continue to monopolize the political press on a local level.  We intend to be on hand to ask the challenging questions they don't care to have brought to light in public.  Members have been interviewed on the radio, by local TV news crews, as well as by the Associated Press.

We conducted a strategic planning meeting open to the entire membership on February 21 to develop some consensus on how we might want to take advantage of the Townhall Meet-Up opportunity.  Much was accomplished, and the notes from the meeting are posted here in the "Announcements" forum.  Please read them to get a feel for where we are headed during the launch phase of Columbus Townhall.

One of the results of that meeting was establishing our initial decision making processes.  Early on we established an Executive Committe, consiting of seven of our founding members, who remain in constant contact and meet frequently to strategize and work towards accomplishing objectives.

Additionally, we have decided to recruit four members who would be interested in serving as Committee Chairpersons, who will concurrently serve on the Executive Committee to participate in strategic planning and decision making.  The following four committees will be set up, and we ask that interested individuals advise us of their interest.

Political Activism Committee (inclusive of the Conservative Cavalry)

Recruitment / Membership Committee

Public Relations Committee

Political Campaign Committee

See the posting in the "Announcements" forum for additional details.  If you would be willing to chair one of these committees, or to serve on them, please let us know.  Our Chairperson selections will hopefully be finalized in the next 30 days.

As the Townhall Meet-Ups are actually set up by Townhall Meet-Up, we have been disappointed in the venues.  Too noisy, too busy, too dificult to conduct an organized meeting.  These meetings will continue to be productive in terms of becoming associated with new members, though the Executive Committee will this month discuss the potential for holding our own monthly public meeting for the entire membership of Columbus Townhall.  We need to find some venues that can provide some private, more quiet space in which to meet.  These might be private rooms at restaurants, with an opportunity for a meal and drinks, or could be anywhere else.  If you have any personal recommendations of appropriate venues for future meetings, please e-mail me with the information, and we will check them out.

I can offer conference rooms/class rooms at OSU as meeting space.  The advantages are: large meeting space and plenty of quiet.  Sentinel folks may be inclined to drop by.  The disadvantages are parking (fee and a short walk) and no food (but you can bring your own).

I would be willing to chair the political committee if no one else is interested.  My focus (like a laser beam), however, will be on Blackwell's election... I don't want to mislead anyone about my intentions.

Advisor, we were hoping you'd step forward, and  we agree with you about Secretary Blackwell.  Good match.  We'll discuss at Executive Committee Meeting.

As to your offer to coordinate a meeting room for a monthly meeting of the Columbus Townhall general membership, I love your idea.  We've already discussed that possibility, and were especially drawn to it in the hope of encouraging student interaction with Columbus Townhall.  We'll also discuss this at next Executive Committee meeting.

Thanks for your offers.  Good man!

Well couldn't make the meeting sorry guys.

I don't have teh time to actually chair a committee, but I'm all for the recruitment part.

I've at least got one 'fuzzy pagan for Kerry' to actually listen to the man.  I'll make a conservative out of her yet.   Shocked

Advisor, I second your nomination, and would like to join that committee. I am assuming that the committee will include the Conservative Cavalry and any internet video campaigns.
