Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman was reported to have been "outraged" that profane thug racist rappers used racist profanity at a free rap concert at the 31st Annual Black Mayors Convention hosted in Columbus.
The hip-hop rap artists, Sticman and M-1 of Dead Prez, performed in front of Columbus students at the conference, described as a display of solidarity for Black leadership across the nation.
A lyrical sampling of what Columbus Public Schools students were treated to at the week of solidarity hosted by the city of Columbus:
They schools can’t teach us s**t
My people need freedom, we tryin to get all we can get
All my high school teachers can suck my d**k
Tellin me white man lies straight bulls**t (echoes)
They schools ain’t teachin us, what we need to know to survive
(say what, say what)
They schools don’t educate, all they teach the people is lies
You see dog, you see how quick these motherf*****s be to like
Be tellin niggas get a diploma so you can get a job
Knowwhatimsayin but they don’t never tell you how the job
Gonna exploit you every time knowwhatimsayin that’s why I be like
F**k they schools!
The convention's executive director Vanessa Williams says the MCs violated a written contract to leave out profanity when they performed.
Williams says the hip-hop group will be held accountable and she would like for them to make a public apology to the students who attended the event and the organization.
While not commenting on the appropriateness of hiring a profane racist rap group to perform for students at the convention in the middle of a scandal about school violence, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman says he had no input on who would be speaking at the event and blasted the performance, calling it "an outrage".
I have a feeling that we will be hearing this latest addition to the vocabulary of Mayor Micahel Coleman a lot.
