I have spent the last several months writing every person I could, including the NRA, about the Columbus AWB. I discovered very quickly that the facts had nothing to do with council's vote. They made up their mind long before the vote. My father, who is a life member of the NRA, has never been to a convention and this was probably his only opportunity. He would rather see Columbus punished, even if only by reputation, for the unjust, unconstitutional, and frankly un-american legislation they passed on July 11. I agree with him.

The media portrayed the NRA as taking their toys and going home but the truth is that they stood behind their beliefs and convictions and did the only thing they could do. I stand behind those same beliefs and plan on moving out of the city as soon as possible. Council has made it clear that they do not intend to make sure that crime is properly punished. They thought law-abiding citizens would be an easier target. I intend to fight this to the end, even if I do move.

The City Council is wrong, they do not represent the people. They do not represent the Constution of this country. The NRA did the right thing.

Phil Harmon who is a Republican canidate for Columbus City Council has filed a lawsuit against the AWB, it was a mentioned item on 610 WTVN this morning. Perhaps this will finally get the conservatives off their comfy rear ends and to the ballot box.

Hypothetical question:
If the Columbus AWB goes into affect with the promise that Columbus will be safer and if a murder or crime is committed with a banned weapon after that date, then couldn't a class action suit be filed by the citizens of Columbus or a group of citizens against the Council for breach of promise? Not a lawyer but it did occur to me the other day.

That's a good question, I would like to know of the last 3 years murders that have been committed within Columbus the number of them that happened with a "banned" assualt weapon.

Phil was active in trying to end the smoking ban also.

I checked the Franklin CO GOP site. Phil is not endorsed by the GOP.  Like that matters.  Does Phil have a web site or contact info?  Phil did qualify in the primary.

Tweet, I asked that very same question twice. Once I asked Councilman Mental when he started talking about the AWB and the answer was that the percentage was unknown. I asked again after the hearings and got the same answer. Doesn't really add alot of credence to the ban does it?

Mk lets try this one more time. That's the typical BS they grow down there. I'm close to making a trip to a council meeting, is anyone else game?

Greetings,

Sorry about lack of earlier response.  Tried to make one earlier but it disappeared into cyberspace somewhere.

Anyway, I have stood in favor of district represenation for several years now.  As Chairman of PEER, we actively pushed for it in last year's City Council campaign and I am pushing for it this year.

Also, I strongly disagree with Council's recent passage of the Assault Weapons Ban.  We have filed a lawsuit challenging it and I expect additional legal action to follow.

We are working on campaign website and hope to announce it later this week.  Stay tuned.

Thanks,

Phil Harmon
City Council Candidate
