I just watched a movie on Lifetime tonight called "Speak".  It was about a young girl who is sexually assaulted by an upperclassman at a summer party.  It shows her struggling through her freshman year in highschool after being abandoned by her closest friends for calling the cops to the party.  It actually had some pretty big name actors (Kristin Smith who played Jodie Foster's daughter in "Panic Room", Elizabeth Perkins of "Big" fame, DB Sweeney, etc. ) and had originally debuted at Sundance.  Lifetime and Showtime simulcast it along with a Public Service Announcement  about handling rape.

As I watched, I noticed a familiar site in the background:  the Tower Dorms of Ohio State University.  Sure enough, after the movie, which was quite strong really, I went online and researched to find out where the movie had filmed.  I found this article which explains that it was filmed in Columbus because one of the production people was moving here with his fiance.

Note the statement:

"The team found just what they needed in Columbus, where the Mayor's office and the school district welcomed them and provided excellent support and facilities."

I just think it is really ironic that the "Mayor's office and school district" were so involved in such a movie when they can't even handle the real violence happening in our real schools!  That's all...
