When voting, I would like to point out that Kent Justice or George are not choices for this poll today.

Thank you for the wonderful event.  It was very informative and I wish more political events had the feel and content of last nights.

As to my view, David Smith is the candidate.  Mitchell proved his inability to respond directly to questions (which doesn't bode well for future televised debates) and his record proves he can't win a state election.  While I was impressed with Pierce, I felt that his agenda is more of an executive agenda and will not motivate voters in May and especially not in November.

David was a little slow out of the gate, but clearly demonstrated that he has the passion, energy and intellect to make a real difference in Washington.

My contribution and my vote are going with David Smith.

That was an awesome event. Congratulations to CTH for pulling it off. I think Ohioans would be well served with any one of the three candidates.

I have to preface my opinion of who appears to be the best candidate by saying that I only have this event from which to decide. I have never heard either candidate speak in public, and I really haven't thoroughly looked at their individual campaigns yet. I plan to do both as the primary unfolds and once I do that, I will have a better idea of who I would vPI say below is for the benefit of the candidates who may be reading this, so that they can all polish their campaigns.

I have been aware of COL Mitchel for some time and admire his service, his defense credentials and his eagerness to work with conservative groups like ours. As a leader, and as a man who knows what it means to swear and keep an oath to his country, I like to think that he could be a guy that would serve us all well as a US Senator. Unfortunately, he didn't come off sounding like a candidate who had a clear grasp of the issues. COL Mitchel needs to reach out and find someone who can take a critical look at his campaign and work with him to improve it and his presentation. With a better team behind him and working with him, he would be a tough candidate to beat. (I'm sure there are people out there who would help him for nothing more than the pleasure of unseating Dewine).

Mr. Smith has similar problems. I think audiences see his youth and passion and are drawn to his campaign. Unfortunately, youth and passion are a poor substitute for content. I heard him claiming to be "that leader" more than I saw him demonstrate that he is "that leader". I don't know if he has the track record to back up his claim that he can lead Ohio on the national level. And if you don't have that track record, you may not want to throw that out there for 2hrs and  10 minutes or however long it was. I mean, without a clear and precise position on the issues and practical solutions to our nation's woes that audiences will remember, all we have is his word for it that he is a leader. So, in my mind, he needs to be more versed on the issues and able to relate to the audience in a way that assures them that, not only is he a practical alternative to Dewine, but that when he becomes a senator he will be able to do the job.

That having been said, who do I feel made the best presentation? Bill Pierce without a question. And I have to admit, I had very low expectations of him from the start.

Bill Pierce came into the event prepared to talk about issues that he knows from experience affect us all. What I liked, is that he wasn't out there fighting Dewine. He was out there advancing his own issues which only happen to be the in oppostion to the way Dewine votes. it's clear that he can be a candidate in his own right, not a mere alternative to the current officeholder. It was courageous of him to admit that he would not work to bring pork back to Ohio because pork is breaking the back of taxpayers who are contending with an already insurmountable national debt. He made a convincing argument about energy policy, explaining the realities behind our hopes of one day becoming independent of foreign oil. Bill Pierce has an education background and touched on an issue that is close to my heart: working with minorities to address problems that are destroying the inner cities and generation upon generation of black American youths. The last thing that I took home from his presentation, and this is very important, was his mention of support for President Bush in the war on terror Iraq. He's right: these pathetic Republican Senators have failed us all by not speaking out in support for our Commander in Chief at a time of war. They have left his administration to fend for itself when they should be out on the front lines consistently defending the leader of their party when he is so clearly in the right.

Hey, I've seen Mitch many times over the years. You didn't see what happens when Democrats are debating him. Trust me... it will make great television. It's like shooting fish in a bath tub. You must consider that debating other Republicans is a higher standard.

I appreciate that he was brave enough to say that he's in the primary because God put him there. That doesn't follow to mean that he's supposed to win... It just means that he serves a purpose at this time. Time will show what that purpose will be.

I think Pierce was great to see. We need more education reform policy from that guy. I must vote for Mitchel and I feel compelled to switch to Republican at the same time, but I'm confused.

When I voted for Mitchel in the Reform Party Primary after the 1996 election, I thought I was registering as Reform Party. It was a long time ago. I can remember my ballot was number 0001. But that was the only party primary I ever voted.

I thought that asking for the Republican Ballot to vote for Mitchel again would switch me from Reform Party to Republican, but now I hear that it will require an additional mark on the ballot. I need to check a box or something to change my party registration.

Is it possible for me to vote for Mitchel in the Republican Primary, not switch to Republican registration, and then vote for George Mays (Reform Party endorsed, don't ask) in the general election?

Is this a loophole that would allow the Reform Party to have 2 candidates competing for the same office? That can't be right, can it?

If any of you guys can join the fun, I'm PeroW-Cheney in the forums at http://www.reformparty.org. I'm making them really mad at me. I think this is gold that the Republicans can harvest in anticipation of 2008.

Please consider what I went through during the Dole campaign and please don't be too mean to me at that forum.

March 15 2006.........If the field of candidates can be narrowed to (1) ONE CHALLENGER....that challenger has a 60/40 chance to beat DeWine. Three challengers to DeWine and we all loose ! March 15th is the date at which 88 board of elections can edit the ballot to reflect the final slate of candidates...after that date removing a name from the ballot becomes problematic.
