As a former teacher how dare you challenge a system that has worked so fine.

You just answered your own statement with your statement. BECAUSE I am a former teacher (and plan to "re-up" in the fall) I dare to challenge the system that
no longer
works.
You've got the union on one side that really only wants money, not the best interests of the staff (which effects the students) and the school board on the other side that makes stupid decisions and puts up roadblocks for the teachers who are ACTUALLY trying to do their job.
Are you
trying
to get me started, tweet??

PI: What roadblocks do school boards put up for teachers trying to do their job?

Let me speak from my own experience. I was in a building that ended up being used as a dumping ground for unwanted students. The program I worked in was developed 15 years ago to catch the students who fell through the cracks. It was very successful. Over the years and 3 or 4 superintendents, the program was stripped. Funding was cut, teachers removed, supplies were refused (for example, a classroom set of textbooks was a LUXURY), teachers were denied the opportunity to attend training (while others in the district were permitted and encouraged to go), career criminal students were transferred to the school which disrupted the teaching process. The district stopped expelling students - ask me about my personal experience with the student who brought a gun to school and shot up the gymnasium or the students (at different times) who threatened another Columbine or the student who hit me and I had to press charges for the student to receive any kind of consequence.
Don't get me wrong. I love teaching. I do it for the kids, not for the money. If I was in it for the money I would STILL be teaching in that district instead of working at a minimum wage job and subbing in different districts until the end of the year rolls around. With my years of experience and level of education it is going to be difficult to find another teaching position because by contract standards I would "make too much" making it difficult for some districts to "afford" me when they can get a cheaper, recently graduated version of myself.

I was looking through this week's issue of Westerville News and Public Opinion. I quickly thumb thru and look for the latest article from "School Board" Scott Takac (who has never seen a levy he didn't like).
Hmmm.. I must have missed it. Back to page one. Going back thru, I see nothing on school funding. I figure Scott must be sick....I hope he is Ok
You see, as memory serves, this is the first issue without an article about Westerville school funding since August.
A quick review:
August-November-Gotta pass the levy, gotta pass the levy, gotta pass yhe levy.
Nov.-New Years--8 weeks of how the school is gonna do without because the levy failed.
January-Schools need more money...
Feb-Mar--Gotta pass the levy....
Never once was there fair and balenced coverage, ie containing costs, supporting budget cuts...
You see, here I thought the paper missed a beat, and then I turned to pp 22 where I found a full page color ad to support the school levy(pd for by a local realtor).
Not only can the paper advance it's personal agenda, it can also sell said agenda in the form of advertising dollars

That is very interesting, Atreides.
In Worthington, we have two local papers, ThisWeek Worthington, and the Suburban News.
ThisWeek appears quite aware of, and willing to report on, the facts, and some of the public's opposition to the increasing levy demands in Worthington. To look at the Suburban News recently, you might not even know that there is another side to the story, or the basic and important facts about this 3rd levy in 5 years (or the 10 mill levy that is already promised for 2008  )
Strange how the SNP seems to have almost picked sides on this issue, and is failing to inform its local readers of both sides of this topic, one which is probably the single biggest issue in Worthington today?!?!
Isn't the media's only real "job" to fully inform the public? Is the Worthington Suburban News doing that job? If not, shouldn't they be "out of a job"?

It must be standard operating procedure for SNP. You see, before the November ballot I was so fed up with Takac's one sided coverage, I sent a letter to the editor to call him out on it. I reminded the editor that there are indeed two sides to the issue.
The very next issue, SNP publicly endorsed the school levy.
My letter to the editor was never published.

Hey wow welcome the truely leftist SNP world. Then again at last in the newest SNP rag that it the streets this week in worthington I believe they had a whole 2 letters in opposition to the current levy that's coming up for vote.

I will give the Westerville News and Public Opinion that much credit.
They get plenty of letters from Westerville seniors opposing the levy. And they do print them.

Wow!
The levy passed 2 to 1.
I have to give the district credit for a well oiled campaign. Personally, I received 4 pro levy mailings, 1 door hanger, and 1 infobot phone call in the days approaching the primary.
In my area, you just couldn't drive very far and not see a yard sign for the schools.
They won. Good for them. The school board promised to stay off the ballot for the next 3 years. I plan to hold them to their word.

Yes they seemed to have a pretty good grip on things there. What's Westervilles record for standing by their word?
