You have to be nuts to be a conservative.
Think just how weird it is to be a conservative...

Having attended the Ann Coulter event at Denison tonight in Granville, where I suspect conservatives were outnumbered 10 to 1...
You come away with how crazy it must be to be a conservative Republican on a college campus these days.  Here you are, a young red-blooded American male, having to convince the co-eds that they should reconsider their position supporting pre-marital sex, abortion, and marriage.
Holy cow! you really have to be nuts to be a conservative.
One girl had a "make love, not war" shirt on, so a friend asked her, "how about now". Another girl had an "I miss Bill (Clinton)" sign, so he asked her, "...."

Ann Coulter got resoundingly booed when she took a swipe at Playboy magazine. I must be on the wrong side of the universe when I find myself trying to convince a young woman that pornography is degrading to women. Why did God make me this way???!!!

Think about these poor conservative bastards who go to mainline protestant churches.
Can you imagine what it is like to be more conservative than your minister?!
Think about it. If you were a Methodist, you would be more conservative than your church leadership who think that abortion is acceptable. If you were Episcopalian you could find yourself being ministered to by ordained practicing homosexuals. Don't even get me started on the Catholic priest controversy.

At next month's CTH meeting I will be the one wearing the "make  love, not war" t-shirt, "reading" Playboy magazine over in the corner.

Hey it was a great time last night, I personally felt anything except out numbered. Considering the poor content of questions that were posed to Ann Coulter last night by these students, I believe the gene pool of the liberals is facing a speedy dilution.

She didn't even break a sweat dealing with the ramblings that were framed to her as alleged questions.....

Counter:....you nailed it ! Last night is a perfect example of why "Tenure" as a concept at our institutions of higher learning should summarily be removed.Liberal idiot professors....who have never worked, what most would consider , a full days work....most never had a real jopb..... are busy poisoning the minds of our "youtz" as evidenced by the performance last night. I blame poor parenting skills and too much money being spent on these lazy - derrierre students whose "mommy" and "daddy" are poppin the $40K large to supposedly educate these characters. I think a good many Americans are about to have a "rendezvous with reality" Great post by the way.

Counter,

I'm thrown off by your comments on religious organization amidst the rest of your sarcasm.

The MSM knows that the core basis of Conservatives is their belief in a system of moral values, which is more often than not derived from a religious background, as well as being reered correctly.  As in all other groups in society, there are "bad apples" that ruin the image of groups and that is exactly what Libs have focuessed on in order to undermine the base of Conservatives in America.  I know that many of us can cite personal experiences of what you posted, but don't get too close to the slippery slope.

Over time, as seen last night, those students have lost sight of any real objective in life and if anyone speaks up on true values or codes of conduct they are osticized and cast aside as being "Nazis" or discriminating arachaic bigots.

This ties in to why the Constitution is NOT a living document, what it says is what is says.  It's society's anchor.  As seen last night, society has digressed too far.

In regards to why it seems that those in the religious life are digressing from doctrine:

It is not condoned that those who have taken religious vows get involved in the politics.  I believe that the clergy has brought them into politics.  When people start making up their own beliefs systems and twist or pick and choose the teachings of the one true faith in order to fit their personal lives, they start making excuses for why they do so in order to legitimize their actions.  We all know that people don't like to be put on the spot when it comes to person transgressions.  With this, increasingly, those of the religious life have backed down from enforcing doctrine and start becoming "inclusive" as not to step on anyone's toes.  This is evident in the increasing number of non-denominational "churches" throughout the world and the increasing number of protestant denominations.  Currently there are over 35,000 protestant denominations in the World.  Does that mean there are more the 35,000 ways to interpret the bible?  It's been too easy for people to rationalize their own actions as opposed to sticking to a certain code.

I agree with everything you say.
I'm trying to point out the obsurdity of the left, with my own obsurdity.
And you can see the pathetic mess these folks are creating rationalizing their own moral code and confusing every institution in society.
It was sad to see these kids so confused.
I observed a few of our folks trying to strike up a dialogue with these individuals - they had no clue what they were talking about.
Is it not strange, that I as a conservative, can make a better argument against whatever it is they oppose than they can?
Take the war for instance, I can make a better argument against the war than they can with their "Bush Lied" excuse.
This stuff is better discussed in person.
These public forums really put a crimp in my more colorful language.

It's tribal, folks.  The Left offers these kids 1) a messianic message, 2) a mantra. and 3) moral superiority.  Many of these kids need to belong to something so badly, and they need to feel good about themselves.  Given the absolute morality being offered up, its simple answers and easy requirements, it's all very logical that you would turn good kids into ideological zomboids.  It's a social process.

Uh, lest I step on toes, the same is true for Rand and Objectivism, although that is reserved for true iconoclasts whose search for meaning and purpose is very individualistic.  Rand offers that same set of things, and a few eat it up...and become blinded to the real world and obnoxious as hell.

These kids are trying to negotiate their world, their identities, and their beliefs.  Absolute "truths" and moral standards are welcome and fit their andrenaline/hormonal needs to a T.

Be that as it may Dain. What was even more disturbing yet to see is that when anyone attempted to engage these kids they would literally turn their back on them & walk away. That is unless they were holding a sign at which point they had to call over one of the educated sign holders to explain what was going on.

So Dain, if that's what they're searching for, how do we present our message in such a way as to satisfy those requirements? Is our only hope to subscribe to the cultish tacticts of the left?

If you wanted to win back the minds of the youth, how would you do it, from a social perspective?

well now...... The event was great, and I had a very enjoyable time. I was entertained by the mindless matter holding signs. The young lady holding the "I miss Bill" sign, I believe to be an aspiring intern. And the parents, are they aware they are putting out thousands of dollars for education, and thier student is learing how to hold signs??? I think a 911 call needs to be placed to these parents.
I don't harbor any ill will for these morons, I would simply suggest the next time they decide to hold a sign, they might want to have some answers ready for the hard questions, such as why do you miss bill?? I was not shocked she had to have one of the more educated sign holders to answer the hard one!
I would like to thank Phill for posting the email address for the contact person to get the tickets. A hats off to the young educated people who helped put the event together!!

Hmm...you need to let me think that out.  Some easy ways would be the Sentinel, of course (but less radical stuff), and of course religion on campus.  A (rightwing) center on campus (like the Ashbrook Center on Ashland U.'s campus) would also help (God knows there are plenty of lefty centers).

But again, let me think about the deeper problem.  Ironically, I think sports may be something that is saving us currently....more later.

Interesting points, folks.  Dain, I'll be anxious to hear your educated perspective on this.

Then we can figure out how Peter (our own Wizard of Oz!) can mesmerize the skulls full of mush, and turn them into a virtual army of our minions!  MOOHOOHAAHAAAHAAAAA!!!

One thing we have learned is that cyberspace can translate to real political actions in real space.  So...how hard/expensive would it be to start a Buckeye Townhall, not affiliated with OSU for sure, but aimed at the college kids?  The Sentinel tries to do this with paper and a website, but that's not interactive.
