$260M BACK STAB
HILL'S FLIP ON DIPLO TAXES COSTS CITY A BUNDLE

By JENNIFER FERMINO

The Big Apple recently won a ruling requiring India and Mongolia to fork over some $46 million in back taxes. But Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has overturned the policy of requiring foreign governments to pay such taxes.

Thanks a lot, Hillary!

In a surprise turnaround that will cost the city $260 million in back taxes and untold millions in future lost revenue, Hillary Rodham Clinton's State Department has quietly reversed a longstanding policy requiring foreign governments to pay taxes on some diplomatic residences.

It's a shocking about-face by Secretary of State Clinton -- who repeatedly spoke in favor of the city's right to collect the taxes when she was New York's junior senator.

Former Catholic Democratic leader pleads guilty to prostituting 17-year-old

Columbus, Ohio, Jul 13, 2009 / 10:47 pm (CNA).- R. Eric McFadden, a former leader of several Democrat-leaning Catholic groups, has pled guilty to two counts of compelling prostitution for prostituting a 17-year-old girl on the internet.

Five other counts of pandering obscenity and promoting prostitution were dismissed.

McFadden, 46, was former director of Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland’s Office of Faith-Based Initiatives. He worked for Catholics for Kerry in 2004 and served as the president of Catholics for Faithful Citizenship in 2005. In 2006 he served as a spokesman for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and was an outreach organizer for Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

Joe Biden: ‘We Have to Go Spend Money to Keep From Going Bankrupt’

CNS News, by Penny Starr

Vice President Joe Biden told people attending an AARP town hall meeting that unless the Democrat-supported health care plan becomes law the nation will go bankrupt and that the only way to avoid that fate is for the government to spend more money. (Snip) "You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.”

The funny part here is both he and his wife are lawyers.  And she is in jail...

Congressman Admits: Congress Stupid
By Matt Patterson
It was an astonishing admission.

Last week, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told an audience at the National Press Club that, not only had he not read the House health-care bill which would reorganize 1/6th of the U.S. economy, but that even if he had he would not have understood it:

"I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill.'  What good is reading the bill if it's a thousand pages and you don't have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?"

And so a leading legislator confesses that he is too lazy to read, and too stupid to understand, the legislation that he will pass judgment on and which he will expect Americans to live under.  Either that, or the bill as crafted is so opaque as to be effectively incomprehensible.

SEIU boss denounces 'terrorist tactics' of the Right, day after alleged SEIU assault on conservative
By: David Freddoso

Dennis Rivera, health care chairman of the Service Employees International Union, denounced "radical fringe right-wingers" this afternoon for using "terrorist tactics" to thwart the discussion of health care reform.

His remarks came one day after SEIU members allegedly assaulted a conservative protestor outside a town hall meeting in St. Louis County, Mo. The end of the attack and its aftermath were caught on tape.

"These are the times to clearly speak out in a civilized way, and tell them we won't be prevented by these terrorist tactics from participating in these town hall meetings," Rivera told to thousands of SEIU members on a conference call this afternoon.

Kenneth Gladney, a conservative activist who was distributing Gadsden Flags at the St. Louis town hall meeting, sought medical treatment after the attack, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. David Brown, who wrote on the St. Louis Tea Party blog today that he is Gladney's attorney and witnessed the incident, identified individuals in SEIU's purple shirts as assailants. In this video, taken moments after the alleged assault, an SEIU-purple-clad man is arrested by police. Brown has not responded to The Examiner's inquiries.

Congressman Green’s Hypocrisy    [Hans Von Spakovsky]

The unabashed hypocrisy of liberals just never ends. As NewsBusters reports, Democratic congressman Gene Green of Texas is apparently perturbed about the hard time he has been getting at home over his support for a government takeover of health care. So he has issued an announcement on his website stating that “due to a coordinated effort to disrupt our town hall meetings, we will be restricting further attendance to residents of the 29th Congressional District and verifying residency by requiring photo identification.”

Of course, this is the same Congressman Green who is against requiring photo ID for voting. He voted against the Federal Election Integrity Act in 2006, which would have required anyone voting in a federal election to produce a government-issued photo ID. Green wants to verify the identity of every individual who comes to one of his town-hall meetings — but he does not want election officials to verify the identity of everyone who votes in the elections that put him into office. Interesting contrast, isn’t it?

I was looking for an existing thread entitled, "Democrat *ssholes", but this one will have to do.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Energy Leader (National Review, 08.10.09)

Detroit, Mich. - Michigan just experienced its coldest July on record; global temperatures haven't risen in more than a decade; Great Lakes water levels have resumed their 30-year cyclical rise (contrary to a decade of media scare stories that they were drying up due to global warming), and polls show that climate change doesn't even make a list of Michigan voters' top-ten concerns.

Yet in an interview with the Detroit News Monday, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) - recently appointed to the Senate Energy Committee - made clear that fighting the climate crisis is her top priority.

"Climate change is very real," she confessed as she embraced cap and trade's massive tax increase on Michigan industry - at the same time claiming, against all the evidence, that it would not lead to an increase in manufacturing costs or energy prices. "Global warming creates volatility. I feel it when I'm flying. The storms are more volatile. We are paying the price in more hurricanes and tornadoes."

And there are sea monsters in Lake Michigan. I can feel them when I'm boating.

Smoking ’Em Out   [Rich Lowry]

It's fun to watch liberal bloggers and publications now declare trutherism practically a mainstream Democratic belief for which Van Jones didn't deserve to be defenestrated. Besides The Nation and that McWhorter piece in TNR, here's Firedoglake founder Jane Hamsher (h/t JustOneMinute):

Now he's been thrown under the bus by the White House for signing his name to a petition expressing something that 35% of all Democrats believed as of 2007 — that George Bush knew in advance about the attacks of 9/11.

CNSNews.com spoke with Moore on the red carpet at the Uptown Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night before the premiere of his upcoming documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story."

CNSNews.com asked: “Critics may say, when they see this movie, Michael Moore has amassed a fortune of over $50 million, some have said and –”

Moore said:  “Really? Are you kidding me? Seriously? Wow. Where did it go?”

The liberal scum will put his mother on ebay tomorrow...

Fox News is evil -- unless you're selling an Obama book

Ah, the flexibility of politics. You gotta love it.

The Obama administration has in recent weeks picked a silly fight with the Fox News Channel to help keep impatient supporters on its own left from rebelling too much. If you've got a common enemy, you've got to stay together, right? Even if you're unhappy with the progressive progress on numerous Democratic fronts.

It's a silly fight for several reasons. It makes a president who must face down other nucleDavid Plouffe Obama 2008 campaign managerar powers look timorous and thin-skinned about something as inconsequential as the most popular U.S. cable news channel.

It ignores the fact that more than a third of Fox News viewers are Democrats. So the David Axelrod-Anita Dunn communications strategists are willfully forfeiting an opportunity to get their message out to millions more likely supporters.

And, worst, to pick and prolong a partisan fight with lowly D.C. journalists goes directly against the fundamental message that Barack Obama made a keynote of his $750-million holy campaign last year: changing the partisan tone in Washington once and for all. Change to believe in. No podemos si.

As a result, you haven't seen Obama administration officials interviewed much over there on Fox News, despite the invitations.

Come Thursday night, that won't change. That's because David Plouffe is not an official member of the Obama administration. He is, however, the single individual arguably most responsible for getting Obama into the White House.
Why will the Obama campaign manager appear, you might ask?

Because he wants to sell his book ("The Audacity to Win"), would be the answer. Which is apparently different than selling a political message. So Plouffe, who still loyally touts the official Obama line (he was nattering at Fox News again over the weekend on other outlets), has apparently received a presidential dispensation to appear on the evil empire.

Our diligent colleague Mark Silva, who broke this story, has much more detail here.

Will Pelosi start weeping over this??

How’s That Whole Democracy Thing Going, Mr. Gore?   [Andrew Stuttaford]

Al Gore is notoriously keen on imposing new laws in the interests of fighting “climate change,” but to him some laws (or so it seems from this interview with Gore in the Guardian) are more equal than others:

Amid increasing incidents of climate protesters disrupting the operations of fossil-fuel industries and airports in Britain and elsewhere, Gore suggests the scale of the emergency means non-violent lawbreaking is justified. "Civil disobedience has an honourable history, and when the urgency and moral clarity cross a certain threshold, then I think that civil disobedience is quite understandable, and it has a role to play," he says. "And I expect that it will increase, no question about it."

And who defines “urgency,” and who “moral clarity,” Mr. Gore?

After all the screeching and whining about the tea-party crowd’s alleged disdain for the usual democratic process, I will look forward to hearing how the White House and its claque respond to what Gore has just said.

Barney Frank's Keen Eye For Crime  [Greg Pollowitz]

You gotta love his excuse:

FOX25 has learned that Congressman Barney Frank was present during a marijuana arrest at James Ready's home in Ogunquit, Maine.  Ready is well-known for his relationship with Congressman Frank.

According to a police report, police charged Ready with marijuana possession, cultivation and use of drug paraphernalia in August of 2007.  Ready admitted to civil possession and paid a fine.  The remaining charges were dismissed in 2008.

Sources tell FOX25 that when Frank was questioned he told police that he did not live in the house and that he only smoked cigars.

Congressman Frank tells FOX25 that he was surprised and disappointed with what police found.  He also tells us that he wouldn't recognize a marijuana plant if he saw one because he is, "not a great outdoorsman," and ,"wouldn't recognize most plants."

Prof busted in Columbia gal 'punch'

By PERRY CHIARAMONTE, BETH STEBNER and JEREMY OLSHAN

A prominent Columbia architecture professor punched a female university employee in the face at a Harlem bar during a heated argument about race relations, cops said yesterday.

Police busted Lionel McIntyre, 59, for assault yesterday after his bruised victim, Camille Davis, filed charges.

McIntyre and Davis, who works as a production manager in the school's theater department, are both regulars at Toast, a popular university bar on Broadway and 125th Street, sources said.

The professor, who is black, had been engaged in a fiery discussion about "white privilege" with Davis, who is white, and another male regular, who is also white, Friday night at 10:30 when fists started flying, patrons said.

McIntyre, who is known as "Mac" at the bar, shoved Davis, and when the other patron and a bar employee tried to break it up, the prof slugged Davis in the face, witnesses said.

Don't listen to other ideas (especially if they are the correct ones), just label it "hate speech" and ban it like most good liberals want to do...

I Was Lou Dobbs's Last Guest: Witness To a Star Reborn

By Jeffrey Lord

... I was a guest invited to discuss a series of columns in this space on what I perceived as an assault on conservative media and free speech by an interfaith coalition called So We Might See. (The columns and blog posts can be found  here,  here,  here,  here,  here and  here.)

One of the targets of this effort was Lou Dobbs, and the coalition's website was featuring a link to a campaign to "Drop Dobbs." As a member of the United Church of Christ, the church leader of this effort, I had received an e-mail inviting me to, among other things, join the effort to "Drop Dobbs" as well as throw Glenn Beck off the air as well. Church members were being asked to sign on to a petition to the FCC citing Rush Limbaugh for hate speech, while the media package cited Bill O'Reilly, Beck and Dobbs as guilty of hate speech. Beginning with the Woodward-Bernstein mantra of "follow the money," I discovered the money led directly to a group called the Media Democracy Fund, which was a partial funder of So We Might See and was itself partially funded by the left-wing billionaire George Soros.
