I am a born & bred American citizen and I am appalled & repulsed by my government's recognition of Kosovo as an independent country ! What the H3LL was my President thinking of with this move ?
     There is a large segment of the state of Vermont in the USA that wants to secede and declare independence form the US. What would W43 do if that happened ? I'll tell you what he would do, he would dissolve the state legislature of Vermont, declare Martial law, and send in the troops. End of story !
      This is an outrage and I am livid at this crime against the sovereign state of Serbia by the Kosovars backed by the BIG BULLIES in NATO. I hope Serbia sends their army into Kosovo to take it back !
       Never in my born days would I have thought I would be in total agreement with the Russian government on any issue of foreign policy, but here we are !
        For crying out loud, why would the US recognize the independence of an infiltrated (90% Albanian Muslims) province of the sovereign state of Serbia ?
      Are we going to let the states of Arizona and New Mexico secede from the US when the population is overrun with illegal mexican immigrants ? As we used to say in "The Corps", "I kinda f*cking doubt it !"
       What say you concerned citizens ?

This is a bull sh*t move and the Russians have it right this time. It'll only be a matter of time until the Russians do the right thing.

It's sad the MSM has ignored the murders and burning of numerous turn of the century Christian historical landmarks.

 

We need to put this situation into its larger context. This take over of a Serbian province by the Albanian Muslims and the creation of an independent muslim state of Kosovo is the culmination of the "holy" war against the West by radicalized muslims. Same thing will happen in Western European countrys as those liberal panty-waisted European governments acquiesce to feet washing kiosks in airports and acceptance of Sharia law......all the while those muslim populations multiply. AMERICA are you paying attention ? George Bush is right on the money to take this WAR to its incubating nests in the Middle East but errored massively in tacit approval/recognization of a soverign state of Kosovo.

As Americans look quizzically at their TV sets while non-Muslim protestors in Europe torch a U.S. embassy, they should know that yesterday’s 200,000-person protest in Belgrade (whose members are separate from the fire starters) is the first time in two decades that Serbs are showing a glimmer of rational behavior--amid 20 years of the “free world” foisting terrorist neighbors upon them.

To put this in perspective, with advance apologies to any offended ethnic groups: How would Americans react if Latino gangs started ambushing police and killing government officials in California, and after a few years the U.S. sent in the troops because the gangs were outgunning the police force; following this, the gangsters started claiming atrocities—and so Russia and China bombed California and Washington in response to the “atrocities”; the foreign powers then occupied California for eight years while the gangs killed or expelled most of the non-Latinos in “revenge attacks,” then backed a declaration of independence for California as a Mexican-majority state that may just unify with Mexico?

Does Balkanization beckon anew?

When the Great War comes, said old Bismarck, it will come out of "some damn fool thing in the Balkans."

On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip shot the archduke and heir to the Austrian throne, Franz Ferdinand, in Sarajevo, setting in motion the train of events that led to the first world war.

In the spring 1999, the United States bombed Serbia for 78 days to force its army out of that nation's cradle province of Kosovo. The Serbs were fighting Albanian separatists of the Kosovo Liberation Army, or KLA. And we had no more right to bomb Belgrade than the Royal Navy would have had to bombard New York in our Civil War.

We bombed Serbia, we were told, to stop the genocide in Kosovo. But there was no genocide. This was propaganda. The United Nations' final casualty count of Serbs and Albanians in Slobodan Milosevic's war did not add up to 1 percent of the dead in Mr. Lincoln's war.

Albanians did flee in the tens of thousands during the war. But since that war's end, the Serbs of Kosovo have seen their churches and monasteries smashed and vandalized and have been ethnically cleansed in the scores of thousands from their ancestral province. In the exodus, they have lost everything. The remaining Serb population of 120,000 is largely confined to enclaves guarded by NATO troops.

"At a Serb monastery in Pec," writes the Washington Post, "Italian troops protect the holy site, which is surrounded by a massive new wall to shield elderly nuns from stone-throwing and other abuse by passing ethnic Albanians."

On Sunday, Kosovo declared independence and was recognized by the European Union and President Bush. But this is not the end of the story. It is only the preface to a new history of the Balkans, a region that has known too much history.

By intervening in a civil war to aid the secession of an ancient province, to create a new nation that has never before existed and, to erect it along ethnic, religious and tribal lines, we have established a dangerous precedent. Muslim and Albanian extremists are already talking of a Greater Albania, consisting of Albania, Kosovo and the Albanian-Muslim sectors of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.

If these Albanian minorities should demand the right to secede and join their kinsmen in Kosovo, on what grounds would we oppose them? The inviolability of borders? What if the Serb majority in the Mitrovica region of northern Kosovo, who reject Albanian rule, secede and call on their kinsmen in Serbia to protect them?

Just a quick update on the "wonderful" oppressed Albanian Muslim Kosovars that recently became the latest ROGUE state on the planet. Hollywood and our the great "unbiased" American media have painted the Serbs as the Balkan monsters since the late nineties as we all know. Well, the KLA and Albanian Muslims have been terrorizing and driving out the remaining Serbs in Kosovo while under NATO occupation. So, now the Albanian invaders have a 90 percent majority and apparently some kind of "deal" with some of the major NATO countries (US, not-so Great Britain, and, of course, the majorly STUPID French) to become "independent". What a colossal CROCK of FECES ! Albania and a huge number of the Kosovars want Kosovo as a province of Albania. They even have it named already . . . Kosova. Serbians Will Never Accept Kosovo Independence

Borislav Milosevic, Ambassador of the United Republic of Yugoslavia to Russia from 1998 - 2001, elder brother of former President of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview about the political situation in Serbia and the future of Kosovo, and about Russian-Serbian relations.

Borislav is 71-years old and still trim and smart. He speaks fluent Russian, English, and French. He bears a slight resemblance with his late brother, Slobodan, and shares the same anxieties about the future of their beloved native land.

What is your opinion about the announcement of Kosovo's independence and its recognition by several countries?

MILOSEVIC: It is very painful for every Serbian. There is a feeling of humiliation and injustice, a trampling of international rights, the helplessness of the United Nations. It means that if you have force and resources, you can defend your rights in international relations. If you don't have such power, you don't have any rights. I think that the U.S. and the European Union made a gross and criminal mistake with far-reaching, serious consequences for international relations.

At the present moment (February 17) do you foresee any possibilities for the settlement of Kosovo's status problem?

MILOSEVIC: Yes, there are some. We should continue negotiations and the search for compromise. But some countries will continue to  block this course. There were no real negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina. Actually, Albanian separatists during negotiations in Vienna and Brussels tested the Serbian side - to see what kinds of concessions they could win. The Serbian side made concessions. The Kosovo Albanians didn't make any offerings or concessions because the U.S. and some European countries promised them independence. Thus, Kosovo's separatists simply waited for the end of this show, and their bosses handed them this independence.

What do you think about Kosovo's future?

MILOSEVIC: There are no responsible and serious political parties in Serbia today that stand for recognition of Kosovo's independence. Russia and China in the Security Council of the United Nations stand for the territorial integrity of Serbia. The positions of Russia and China are very important for the system of international law. The situation around Kosovo may be a double precedent for global affairs. First, in March 1999 NATO unleashed aggression against Yugoslavia, and western politicians said this war was an exception of the rule. But now U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says that it was a precedent: "Why can't we attack Iran? We bombed Yugoslavia without a mandate of the Security Council of the United Nations already!" Second, this is a precedent for all current points of separatism all over the world.

Hundreds of Serbs storm UN-run Kosovo courts

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA (AFP)

Hundreds of Serbs opposed to Kosovo's independence clashed with international police before storming and occupying two UN-run courts here Friday, police said.

Around 300 Serbs of the northern half of Mitrovica "demolished and broke through two entrance gates and entered the buildings of the municipal and district courts, where they took down the UN flag," said a Kosovo police statement.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, on a brief visit to Kosovo, condemned the incident he described as "provocation."

"Provocations are unhelpful. They lead to the situations which are unacceptable," Scheffer told reporters in the Kosovo capital Pristina.

He said such acts were "unacceptable and against the United Nations."

"It is an act against the world community and it is against the voice of moderation," he said.

Serbia says working with Russia on Kosovo response

Serbia and its ally Russia are consulting on joint steps to stop "all forms of violence against Kosovo Serbs", Serbia's caretaker prime minister Vojislav Kostunica said in a statement on Monday.

He accused NATO of "implementing a policy of force against Serbia" following clashes between alliance-led troops and Kosovo Serbs in the flashpoint Kosovo town of Mitrovica, the worst violence since Kosovo's secession one month ago.

"We have started the necessary consultations with Russia about a necessary joint reaction in order to stop all forms of violence against Serbs," his statement added.

It raised the prospect of Serbia inviting Russian troops into Serb-dominated northern Kosovo as peackeepers, undermining the authority of the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping mission, creating potential for conflict, or heralding a partition of the territory.

Russia, which has repeatedly condemned Kosovo's independence as illegal and blocked it at the United Nations, has warned the Western backers of Kosovo's 90 percent Albanian majority that they are playing with fire.

Serbia effectively seeks Kosovo partition-sources

Serbia has offered to govern ethnic Serb areas in Kosovo, senior diplomatic sources said on Tuesday, a plan that would effectively partition the newly independent state.

The proposal was made at the weekend by Serbia's Minister for Kosovo, Slobodan Samardzic, but was rejected by the United Nations administrators of Kosovo which has a 90 percent Albanian majority.

"The proposal's goal seems to be the partition of Kosovo, literally for Serbia to govern in the enclaves," one source told Reuters. Another source in the U.N. mission UNMIK said this would be "a ratification of partition".

Deputy UNMIK chief Larry Rossin confirmed on Tuesday that Samardzic, whom he met at the weekend, had delivered a document meant to be "a framework for a comprehensive relationship between Serbia and UNMIK". He would not comment on the contents.

Backed by Russia, Serbia rejects the Feb. 17 secession of its former province and is instructing the 120,000 remaining Serbs to sever ties with the Albanian majority and ignore a European Union supervisory mission.

Analysts say the Serbs' bitter opposition to Albanian rule, demonstrated by riots in Mitrovica on Monday, has created the conditions of partition. More than half the Serb minority lives in scattered enclaves in southern Kosovo. The rest live north of the river Ibar on a crescent of land backing into Serbia proper.

Policemen, doctors and teachers in the area which has the flashpoint town of Mitrovica as its centre take their orders and salaries from the Serbian government.
