Notice in the previous article how they mention the lawyer's party affiliation (Republican) but, curiously, they do not mention the Govenor's party affiliation.  

Hmmmm....

No Charges, but Spitzer Played Role in Bruno Matter, Report Says

Gov. Eliot Spitzer was actively involved in his administration’s effort last year to discredit the state’s top Republican politician, Joseph L. Bruno, the State Senate majority leader, and was “not truthful” when he was interviewed by investigators about the matter, according to a highly critical report released this afternoon by the Albany district attorney, P. David Soares.

The 20-page report [pdf, explicit language redacted] found that the behavior of Mr. Spitzer and his aides, while problematic, did not rise to the level of prosecution, in part because Mr. Spitzer is no longer governor, having resigned this month amid a prostitution scandal.

In the report, Mr. Soares found that the former governor authorized the compiling and release of State Police records documenting the travels of Mr. Bruno, which followed a request for such information from The Times-Union of Albany. The report paints a picture of a highly politicized environment in Albany, but Mr. Soares concluded that “no New York State Penal Laws were broken as pertains to the release of information to the press on the use of state aircraft” — affirming an earlier report he issued last September.

The report concludes that Darren Dopp, who was the communications director for Mr. Spitzer, did not commit perjury, but may have committed two other misdemeanors: offering a false instrument and making an apparently sworn false statement. The report also found that lawyers for the Spitzer administration did not coerce Mr. Dopp into making the false statements.
