Judicial Watch Announces List of Washington's "Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians" for 2009

One Republican and nine Democrats...sounds about right.  I am sure it is more like one Republican and 19 Democrats...but who's counting?
Check out #7.

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon resigning post
Baltimore Business Journal - by Gary Haber and Robert J. Terry Staff

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon is stepping down, the result of a guilty plea entered Wednesday on one count of perjury.

Dixon’s resignation will be tendered Wednesday and will become effective Feb. 4, when she is sentenced. Dixon, a Democrat, was convicted in December on one count of embezzlement stemming from her use of gift cards given to the city by Patrick Turner, a developer. Turner claimed the gift cards were intended for the needy.

Once Dixon steps down, she will be replaced by City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

The trial offered a window into what critics have called a pay-to-play mentality at City Hall that tarnished Baltimore’s reputation.

In the deal, part of an Alford plea worked out with Judge Dennis M. Sweeney, the mayor gets probation before judgment, Dixon attorney Arnold Weiner said outside the courthouse. That means that, after Dixon completes four years probation, she will not have a criminal record. And that will enable Dixon to keep her $83,000-per-year pension, built up over more than 20 years of public service.

Democrat?

Anthony Galluccio tops in his field - bar none
Howie Carr

Somewhere this morning in Cambridge, there’s an empty barstool. Actually, there’s a lot of them, and not just in Cambridge. In Charlestown, Chelsea, Everett and Revere, too.

Sen. Anthony Galluccio, a man who truly believed that drinking doubles did make a party, has been dethroned as the King of Barstool Mountain. We can now waive the five-year waiting period and vote him directly into the Alcohol of Fame.

Poor Galluch. He forgot what they say on the street. Don’t do the Sensodyne if you can’t do the time.

Since every scandal must have a name that ends in -gate, let’s call this one Colgate

Culture of Corruption Produces Awful Health Care Bill
By Robert Tracinski

Usually a major welfare-state bill has to be passed by Congress and go into effect before it is exposed as corrupt. The money has to actually be flowing out of Washington before anyone notices that it's being diverted into a cesspool of special favors and sweetheart deals.

But a lot of things are unprecedented about the current push for a health care bill. Never has such a major expansion of the welfare state been passed without bipartisan support and broad approval from the public. And rarely has the corruption of a program been exposed while it is still awaiting final approval in Congress.

In this case, the special favors and vote-buying are so gaudy that some of the corrupt deals even have their own names: the "Cornhusker Kickback" and the "Louisiana Purchase." In order to squeak by with the votes they needed in the House and Senate, Democratic leader offered money for hospitals in some districts, exemptions for limitations on Medicare Advantage programs in other districts, special tax breaks here and federal subsidies there.

It's so bad that fellow Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln felt the need to publicly denounce Ben Nelson's "horse-trading" on behalf of Nebraska, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a liberal Republican who used to support the health care bill, has turned against it. Schwarzenegger explains: "While I enthusiastically support health care reform, it is not reform to push more costs onto states that are already struggling while other states get sweetheart deals. Health care reform, which started as noble and needed legislation, has become a trough of bribes, deals, and loopholes."

And Senator Nelson himself is now saying "I think it was a mistake"—not the rotten compromise he asked for, but the administration's whole decision to pursue a health care bill in the first place rather than focusing on reviving the economy.

Rep. Gary Ackerman may have broken House ethics rules with no-money-down stock deal

By Benjamin Lesser and Greg B. Smith
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman hosted a meeting between Israeli officials and a defense-contracting firm in which he had invested money — and made a big profit, a Daily News probe has found.

The Queens Democrat put no money down when he obtained private stock in the company, Xenonics Inc., relying on $14,000 borrowed in 2002 from the company's top shareholder, a longtime friend.

Athens County candidate lied about finances
Democratic Party chairwoman cleared of more serious charges

By Jim Phillips
FOR THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

ATHENS, Ohio—Athens County Democratic Party Chairwoman Susan Gwinn has been convicted of two counts of falsification for untruthful campaign- finance reports.

The appointed judge who heard Gwinn's case in a bench trial last month, however, found her not guilty on five low-level felony counts -- two each of theft in office and unauthorized use of property, and one of money laundering.

Special prosecutor Dave Yost, of Delaware County, who investigated the case, said he considers the verdict a victory for transparency in campaign-finance reporting.

"You have to say where your money's really coming from," said Yost, a Republican who is running for Ohio attorney general.

Neither Gwinn nor her attorney returned calls Monday seeking comment.

Voter fraud..must be democrat..

Perry official plans to plead guilty in vote-fraud scheme
By Bill Estep - bestep@herald-leader.com

A longtime Perry County official indicted in a vote-fraud scheme plans to plead guilty, according to a court document.

The attorney for Chester Jones, a circuit clerk and former state representative, filed a motion in federal court Wednesday seeking a hearing for Jones to enter the plea.

Jones was indicted last year with former Perry County Judge-Executive Sherman Neace on charges that they took $7,500 meant for use in efforts to increase voter turnout in November 2008 and instead used the money to buy votes for themselves.

The motion by Jones' attorney said he plans to plead guilty to a charge that he and Neace, aided by each other, schemed to defraud the county Democratic Party and mailed a false campaign-spending report to cover up their misuse of the money.

I'm Barack Obama and I Approve of this Company   [Greg Pollowitz]

And not just because its owner is the husband of my weatherization czar. Really, I promise.

Paul Chesser:

If you did not catch John Stossel's program tonight on "Crony Capitalism," he did a segment that the Freedom Foundation of Minnesota helped him with (a lot!) about a small window company called Serious Materials. The company claims to produce the most energy efficient windows in the world, which other larger companies dispute — but that's not the point. Watch the Stossel segment below and you'll see how Serious got some high profile endorsements from President Obama and Vice President Biden, which is suspicious because the company's vice president for policy is married to the overseer of President Obama's weatherization program, Cathy Zoi. Amazingly, Serious Materials was the only "green" window company to receive some recent tax credits from the federal government.

Most of MSM Yawns, Rolls Over As Largest Union Theft in History Goes Largely Unreported

 by Brian Johnson

While the mainstream media swarmed all over Bernie Madoff, AIG and corporate billionaires, the gentlemen of the press, who are so proud of fighting for the Little Guy, were mostly out to an expense-account lunch when Melissa King allegedly made off with $42 million rightfully belonging to members of the Laborers International Union of North American (LIUNA).

In what is being called the largest union embezzlement in American history, the LIUNA Local 147 (New York) office administration was apparently unsatisfied with her meager $500,000 a year paycheck.

Stimulating Fraud

Hoaxes: With double-digit unemployment in a jobless recovery, half-a-million stimulus dollars have saved a ClimateGate scientist whose work could lead to economic disaster. To save this job, we'd lose millions of others.

As we've gone from jobs saved or created to jobs funded in ZIP codes and congressional districts that don't exist except in galaxies far, far away, many interesting nuggets have been mined from the government's recovery.gov, which tracks the administration's lack of progress.

It's one thing to fail to create real jobs. It is quite another to fund the jobs of people who would put millions of Americans out of work. This is what the administration has done by awarding $541,184 in economic stimulus funds to Penn State University to save, recovery.gov says, 1.62 jobs so that professor Michael Mann can continue his tree-ring circus fraudulently advancing the myth of man-made global warming.

Mann and Penn State received the money shortly before the unearthing of e-mails from Britain's Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia revealed Mann as a participant in a massive campaign of manipulation, suppression and destruction of climate data to advance the bogus claims of the warm-mongers.

"It's outrageous that economic stimulus money is being used to support research conducted by Michael Mann at the very same time he's under investigation by Penn State and is one of the key figures in the international Climate-gate scandal," says Tom Borelli, director of the Free Enterprise Project for the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank. "Penn State should immediately return these funds to the U.S. Treasury."

Justice refuses to release documents in Panther case

By Jerry Seper

The Justice Department, citing privilege claims, has refused to release e-mails and other documents sought under an open records request by The Washington Times to explain its decision last year to dismiss a civil complaint accusing the New Black Panther Party of intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place.

In a letter, the department said that while 69 documents totaling 135 pages were responsive to the Freedom of Information Act request for information on how and why the decision to dismiss the complaint was made, they were being withheld because of "deliberative process" and "attorney work-product" privilege exemptions.
