Robert Owens believes:

    * we need common-sense and less regulation for small business
    * an armed citizenry is the best deterrent to violent crime
    * millions of dollars in no-bid contracts for political patronage must STOP.

Owens, a strong advocate of Second Amendment rights, is the only candidate in the race who actually holds a concealed carry permit

Bob Butler, field director for Owens’ campaign touted the success of the event. “Robert Owens blew away the competition,” said Butler. “We got a huge response from voters and recruited a lot of volunteers to help us get the word out statewide. Robert went there, met people personally, and told them directly where he stands. I think it was clear who the strongest candidate is on issues important to gun owners.”

This fall, Richard Cordray(D), Michael Crites ®, and Robert Owens (I) will campaign to replace former AG Marc Dann (D), who resigned amidst scandal in May.

The Issues
Integrity

There is often a conflict between the law and party politics. The Attorney General is the highest law enforcement official in Ohio and has a duty to protect the State and her officers by upholding the law.

That duty is challenged when influenced by the corrupting nature of partisan politics. Corruption is the natural consequence of this conflict. As an independent candidate for Attorney General I will not be bound to powerful special interests or promises of votes that will affect my enforcement of the law.

When I say I want to bring integrity to the office, I truly believe the best way to accomplish this is by an independent administrator.
Transparency

Big money politics thrives on secrecy. Executive sessions, closed door meetings, obscure commissions, hard to find government information: this is the environment that fosters big money politics.

The secrecy that breeds further corruption in big money politics has got to have light shed on it. Shedding that light and ending governmental secrecy will make the office of the Attorney General and our state government accountable to the citizens of Ohio.

I will have the most open administration, prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law Ohio’s Sunshine Laws. I am fully committed to fighting to bring an end to the influence of big money and corrupt politicians in office.
Rule of Law

Our country and our state should be ruled by our constitution and the spirit and ideals on which our country was founded. Big money politicians have ignored the Rule of Law, legislating and enforcing law according to their own whims and desires. Oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution are routinely ignored, and we the people are slowly seeing our rights and liberties taken away.

As the highest law enforcement official in the state of Ohio, I will pledge to uphold and promote these ideals both in my personal life and with my official actions in office. Our Constitution will be more than a relic from our state’s history, but will be the Rule of Law that will govern my actions in office. As your Independent Attorney General, I will enforce the Constitution of this great State.

Citizen Leader

As a citizen leader, Robert has championed state and federal legislation to preserve our liberties and the Constitution. Initiatives include the repeal of NAFTA, and stopping other bureaucratic measures that threaten national sovereignty such as the proposed North American Union (NAU). Robert served on the City of Delaware’s 2008 Charter Review Commission in which he fought to ensure a balanced budget, maintain fiscal discipline and ensure internal advancement procedures for the police and fire departments. Robert is currently an active leader in Kiwanis, an international service organization.

Supreme Court's gun decision flawed
Friday,  August 1, 2008 3:09 AM

The U.S. Supreme Court recently struck down a gun ban and affirmed that the Second Amendment right to keep and use firearms is an individual right. While this seems gun-rights friendly, the opinion contains serious flaws. It is contradictory by first acknowledging a pre-existing right and later claiming that it is the Second Amendment that confers a right to gun ownership. This claim is at odds with the clear intent of the Founding Fathers and leaves the door open for untold infringements to a citizen's right to self-defense.

The Declaration of Independence clearly states that our rights are inalienable and are derived from our Creator. To secure these rights, the people have instituted government. Our Founding Fathers knew that the best form of government was one strictly limited to specific enumerated powers. The Bill of Rights did not create any rights at all; it simply acknowledged our God-given rights that existed before government.

George Mason, the father of the Bill of Rights, reminded us that "to disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." Many well-intentioned people claim that our modern society is no longer in need of such safeguards. Recent history destroys this argument.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership published a study of the five largest genocides of the 20th century. In each case, a government murdered millions of its citizens. In each case, strict gun-control laws preceded the genocide. None of these atrocities would have been possible but for civilian disarmament. Most Americans would be shocked to know that the U.S. Gun Control Act of 1968 is almost identical to the Nazi civilian disarmament laws of 1938.

The Second Amendment is truly the "teeth of liberty" and serves as the enforcement arm for the First Amendment. It ensures that our rights are guaranteed.

FOX 28 Poll Shows Independent AG Ahead of Major Party Candidates
Saturday, 02 August 2008 00:00

COLUMBUS, OHIO– Just two days before all three attorney general
candidates will appear together, Independent candidate Robert Owens'
popularity is soaring in an online poll. Fox affiliate WTTE created
an online poll Friday which showed Owens with 58 percent support.

"I think this demonstrates that Ohio voters believe in the message.
They are hungry for a clean slate in the attorney general's office,"
said Owens. "I am committed and prepared to rebuild that public trust,
fight crime, and protect Ohioans from deceptive business practices."
