Ignore

Greetings to all of you.  Lifelong central Ohio resident and lifelong conservative Republican here.  I'm happy to join like minded folks on this forum.

I wanted to see what all of you were thinking about the city bond issues that will be on the November ballot.  According to the Dispatch Voter Guide, issues 14-19 will raise in excess of $1.5 billion for improvements, at no cost to the tax payer.  While it is true that Columbus currently pays these off with income tax revenues, I'm concerned that in the future this may change and we'll see an increase in property taxes to pay for these things.

What are your thoughts on these issues?  Is anyone comfortable sharing how they intend to vote on these issues?

Thanks in advance.

Ignore

I'm not sure how many of us actually live within city limits.  I do and I briefly read over the issues yesterday.  I'll be voting no on the majority of the issues on the ballot, bond issues and issue 6 in particular.

My Ballot
http://vote.franklincountyohio.gov/voter/ballots/BALLOT_0517.pdf

Issue 1: Makes some sense, but I've yet to read the fine print.
2: No
3: Doesn't make sense to me.  Depending on how "public welfare" is defined, you may not be able to touch it.
4: Fortunately withdrawn
5: No - Lender's should be allowed to charge however much they want.  The gov't needs to stop protecting us from ourselves
6: No - Why only once casino in a specific spot?  If there's nothing wrong with casinos, open it up to everyone and let the community decide.
14-19: No - why'd they only stop at 6 bonds, I'm sure Columbus citizens would have given them all the money they wanted to do whatever they want.  I reserve the right to change my vote, as this may be a knee jerk reaction, but seriously it doesn't looked good putting this many bonds on a single ballot.
75: Columbus City Schools: Yet another bond, this one substantially increases your property taxes and all indications are that another bond will be issued in another 3 years or so while this one stays in effect for 24 years.

In sum, it's a lot easier to ask for more money than to practice fiscal constraint.  Either that or they're shameless.  Take your pick.
