The role of the U.S. in this ordeal is ridiculous.  Georgia was invaded by Russia.  They have the right to defend their borders.  However, the U.S. pushes them into signing this cease-fire when Russia instigated this conflict.  Additionally, Russia has shown no intent to withdraw.  Georgia is nothing more than a pawn.  If the U.S. truly supports Georgia, they'd push Russia out just as they pushed the Iraqi's out of Kuwait.

The cease fire agreement between Russia and Georgia calls for Russia to withdraw all troops. Why shouldn't Georgia sign it. When Iraq invaded Kuwait, the US gave Iraq many chances to withdraw.

If Russia refuses, President Obama may discover what a dangerous place the world really is.

And the US may discover how dangerous an Obama presidency is as well...

There are those of us who already understand how dangerous a President Mobama would be considering within his campaign bull sh*ting he vows to eliminate all missile defense systems.

The Russians used the diversion of the Olympics to reduce the amount of news coverage and world condemnation of their move. They then feigned surprise of Poland inking the anti-missile defense and the overall modernization of their armed forces agreement.

Mrs. Tweet did bring to my attention the Russians are attempting to use the denial of their admission into NATO as the catalysis of this move against the Georgians.

Mobama doesn't truly understand how bad of a place the world is for the simple reason he's using a retreaded Clinton Administration Foreign Policy Disaster Team. The Clinton Administration Foreign Policy Disaster Team was so inept they brought us the strengthening of Al Qaeda for the front row seats to 9/11.

Russia has already stated once that they were pulling back and did otherwise.  Why should Georgia sign it?  The only reason why they are fighting is because they've been invaded.  I'm sure they'll stop fighting if Russia withdraws or do you think they'll invade Russia?

That's the point. It doesn't matter whether Georgia signs or not so they may as well sign.

This is a challenge to the US to do something immediately.  January will be too late, the positions will have been consolidated (as if they aren't now).  The ball is now in Bush's court.  And don't forget the threat to Poland if they allow the ballistic missiles installation.  The Cold War never went away it was just dormant.  So now what?

Not that I would expect anyone from the MSM to run this for the general consumption within the US newspaper circulation, the larger question is what will Russia do?

Mr. KGB can only keep this up for so long til he really suffers in terms he wasn't prepared for. I would encourage strongly worded letters of support for the Ukrainians to apply the screws even tighter to Mr. KGB.

While he more than likely has overall limited hard line support the single factor which will work very strongly against him is how "westernized" Russia has become, it's like the drug addicts within our communities who murder their friends when they fail to get what they want. If he even dreams of trying to turn off the power to the party there could be a huge uprising.

I realize there are those within the Dimocrat party who can't be honest with themselves that President Bush has been successful on some very important diplomatic fronts. Within the Ukraine even when the attempts to poison their elected president the democratically elected govt stood firm. Not only is this a thorn in the Russian's side, it's a larger problem than they really want to deal with.

Remember I know the argument Saddam was democratically elected, which is easy when your the only one on the ballot

Ukraine offers satellite defence co-operation with Europe and US

Ukraine inflamed mounting East-West tensions yesterday by offering up a Soviet-built satellite facility as part of the European missile defence system.

By Damien McElroy in Tbilisi
Last Updated: 11:24AM BST 17 Aug 2008

The proposal, made amid growing outrage among Russia's neighbours over its military campaign in Georgia, could see Ukraine added to Moscow's nuclear hitlist. A Russian general declared Poland a target for its arsenal after Warsaw signed a deal with Washington to host interceptor missiles for America's anti-nuclear shield.

The move came as the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, signed a cease-fire deal that sets the stage for a Russian troop withdrawal after more than a week of warfare with its neighbour Georgia.

The deal calls for both Russian and Georgian forces to pull back to positions they held before fighting erupted on August 8. As of last night, though, there was little apparent evidence of a Russian pull-out from the Georgian town of Gori, which Russian tanks and troops took last weekend. Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, insisted a broader withdrawal would be contingent on further security measures.

Just hours before Mr Medvedev put his signature to the ceasefire deal, Russian forces blew up a Georgian railway bridge on the main line west of the capital, Tbilisi, an act that critics interpreted as a malacious attempt to cripple the country's infrastructure. Moscow at first issued a denial, but television footage shot by the Reuters news agency clearly showed the bridge's twisted remains.

Ukraine said it was ready to give both Europe and America access to its missile warning systems after Russia earlier annulled a 1992 cooperation agreement involving two satellite tracking stations. Previously, the stations were part of Russia's early-warning system for missiles coming from Europe.

"The fact that Ukraine is no longer a party to the 1992 agreement allows it to launch active cooperation with European countries to integrate its information," a statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

It follows a declaration earlier this week from Ukraine's pro-Western president, Viktor Yushchenko, that the Russian naval lease of the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Sebastopol would be scrapped if any vessels joined the conflict in Georgia.

No, I'm suggesting that since the fall of the Soviet Union, we have at least as much in common and possibly quite a bit more in common with the Russians as compared to the Communist Chinese.

We have given China 100-years of industrialization know-how in a handful of years.

I believe an enriched China is more of a threat to the U.S. than the ex-Soviet Union.

They both are threats but of a different nature.  The Chinese are an economic threat while the Russians are both an economic (oil/gas) and a military threat.  Don't underestimate the latter.  The Europeans are the one who have most to lose.  Probably the Russian people would have no stomach for a military confrontation but I am not sure about their leaders.

Shadow, haven't you been paying attention?

Acting-President Obama will shortly go to Moscow, speak in front of 500,000 Moscovites, thousands of whom will faint and through the force of his personality, his timeless message of hope and change and hope and the common belief that he is the second coming of the Messiah (or is that Lenin, I get confused), the Russian generals will get on the phone pronto and order the withdrawal. It is likely that the withdrawal will be complete quicker than you can say "We are the future and the future is why I am running. The past is distant but with hope, we can change the future so that it is NOW!".

Honestly Shadow, get with the program.

=====================================
OBAMA CONFIRMS RELATIONSHIP WITH CPUSA MEMBER

By Cliff Kincaid

August 16, 2008
NewsWithViews.com

With the release of a 40-page “Unfit for Publication” report attacking Jerome Corsi’s new book, The Obama Nation, it should be obvious that the media-backed presidential candidate, Barack Obama, is terrified of having his carefully concealed communist and foreign connections exposed to public view.

However, the Obama campaign’s attack on Corsi’s book and Corsi personally acknowledges on pages 9 and 10 of its report that the mysterious “Frank” in Obama’s 1995 book, Dreams From My Father, is in fact the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) member Frank Marshall Davis. This identification by AIM and others hasn’t been disputed by the media, which has desperately tried to ignore the Obama-Davis relationship, but the Obama campaign has not responded to it until now.

The admission that Obama’s mentor was Frank Marshall Davis, an identified CPUSA member, can only add to growing public concern about Obama’s relationship with a Communist pawn of Moscow who was the subject of security investigations by the FBI and various congressional committees which examined Soviet activities in the U.S.

According to these official documents, cited first by AIM and also by Corsi in his book, Davis was a secret CPUSA member who became a member of an underground communist apparatus in Hawaii. As late as the 1970s, Davis was involved with a CPUSA front organization, the American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born, dedicated to keeping foreign communists such as labor leader Harry Bridges from being deported from the U.S. Davis, a friend of Bridges, a secret CPUSA member, became Obama’s mentor during the years 1975-1979.
