GOP senators 'caved in' on stimulus

Ron Paul offered a harsh critique of the three Republican senators who have said they will vote for the economic recovery proposal. A vote is scheduled for early next week.

Paul, a Republican representative from Texas who sought the GOP nomination for president, said that although some people call Obama's plan to jumpstart the economy a "stimulus package," he thinks it is a "pure spending package."

On behalf of the citizens of Columbus, Ohio, we want to thank the rest of the country for their tax dollars through President Obama's stimulus package.

The officers were not sufficiently important for us to fund them through our own tax dollars, but by taking the money from you we not only get the police officers, we also get the frivolous stuff that took priority over our security through the police.

We knew we couldn't trick you in to paying for the frivolous stuff we wanted, but by hanging the police recruits out to dry we got your money and a visit from President Obama to boot.

Thanks again, but don't try this trick on us: We invented it.

Don't forget that this trick is only 1 year; when the stimulus money runs out, the police officers will be looking for a new job somewhere near the southern border.

I just saw the bookkeeping on the new police recruits.

I thought it was going to be a charge against City Police Expense.
But apparently they have charged the entire thing to Presidential Photo-Op Expense.

They say the actual cost of the police officers is so trivial compared to the enormous sums spent to stage Obama's Ohio trip that they are treating the police recruits as a de minimis portion of the President's travel & entertainment budget.

Debits = Credits or we don't go home.

I found this site on accident, but it's great!

http://www.stimuluswatch.org/

You can read about all the places where the stimulus money is going, and the pros and cons of each project. You can even comment on each project. Interesting place for intel.

Biggest Government Porkers of 2009 Named by Group

By: Brooke Sopelsa

The polls are open for the annual Porker of the Year vote from Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), and the Democrats have an early lead with four out of the six nominees.

The Nominees:

Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii: According to CAGW, Abercrombie ranked first in earmarks in the House in 2009 with 44 projects worth $256.8 million and fifth in the House in 2008 with 29 projects worth $153.6 million

Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Missouri: The organization alleges the congressman “grossly misrepresented” to his constituents the costs associated with the health care reforms bills currently under consideration in Congress.

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts: Frank made the list for “rewarding failure” with taxpayer dollars. His support of TARP and his “irresponsible defense” of the activities of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over the years earned him a top spot on CAGW’s porker list.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas: Hutchison made CAGW’s list for requesting 149 projects worth $1.6 billion for authorization and appropriations bills for fiscal year 2010, this while claiming to be a fiscal conservative.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood: CAGW credited LaHood with a “long-standing disregard for the taxpayers’ money.”

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California: Waters made the list for her attempt to "placate her need for recognition." CAGW says the congresswoman provoked a tussle with House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., over her intention to obtain an earmark for the Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center, a facility within the Los Angeles school system.
