White House Is Drafting Executive Order to Allow
Indefinite Detention of Terror Suspects

Washington Post, by Dafna Linzer and Peter Finn

The Obama administration, fearing a battle with Congress that could stall plans to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, is drafting an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely, according to three senior government officials with knowledge of White House deliberations. Such an order would embrace claims by former president George W. Bush that certain people can be detained without trial for long periods under the laws of war.

I guess the left didn't follow Obama's logic of an announced withdraw acting as a counter weight to a call for 30,000 more troops.

WAR PRESIDENT

Quote
Obama: 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan

Obama: "We Did Not Ask for This Fight"
Bush: "We Did Not Seek This Conflict"
Obama: "New Attacks are Being Plotted as I Speak"
Bush: "At This Moment ... Terrorists are Planning New Attacks"
Obama: "Our Cause is Just, Our Resolve Unwavering"
Bush: "Our Cause is Just, Our Coalition [is] Determined"
Obama: "This Is No Idle Danger, No Hypothetical Threat"
Bush: "The Enemies of Freedom Are Not Idle"
Obama: "We Have No Interest in Occupying Your Country"
Bush: "I Wouldn't Be Happy if I Were Occupied Either"

Der Spiegel on Obama's Afghanistan speech: "It seemed like a campaign speech combined with Bush rhetoric."

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,664753,00.html

Quote
It was the least truthful address that he has ever held. He spoke of responsibility, but almost every sentence smelled of party tactics. He demanded sacrifice, but he was unable to say what it was for exactly.

An additional 30,000 US soldiers are to march into Afghanistan -- and then they will march right back out again. America is going to war -- and from there it will continue ahead to peace. It was the speech of a Nobel War Prize laureate.

U.S. Intel: 100 or less Al Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan.  I know the U.S. military only commits itself with overwhelming force, but this is typically 3:1 or 4:1, not 1,000:1.

New Obama plans: 'spend our way out' of downturn
Quote
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama outlined new multibillion-dollar stimulus and jobs proposals Tuesday, saying the nation must continue to "spend our way out of this recession" until more Americans are back at work.

Without giving a price tag, Obama proposed a package of new spending for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, deeper tax breaks for small businesses and tax incentives to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.

"We avoided the depression many feared," Obama said in a speech at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. But, he added, "Our work is far from done."

In Official Notification Two Days Later, President Obama Alerts Congress the US Joined a War

Amidst claims by members of Congress that they were insufficiently consulted, and ensuing White House pushback, President Obama Monday officially notified congressional leaders that at “approximately 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, on March 19, 2011, at my direction, U.S. military forces commenced operations to assist an international effort authorized by the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council and undertaken with the support of European allies and Arab partners, to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and address the threat posed to international peace and security by the crisis in Libya.”

The notification was part of the president’s “efforts to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution,” but given complaints from both Democrats and Republicans in Congress, and the fact that the war started two days ago, it had the effect of a rather discomforting “While You Were Out…” note.

My favorite parts of all of this:

1) My overwhelming support of Dennis Kucinich for being consistent in calling for 0bama's impeachment.  He's a lunatic, but a consistent one.

2) Idiot Skeptic can't be found peeing down his leg over the hypocrisy...

3) The idiots who overwhelmingly agreed that 0bama should get the Nobel peace prize, who are now silent.  I think he should keep it...he belongs in the same company as Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter.

Vindicating Guantanamo
Eric Holder adopts the Bush anti-terror architecture.

The Obama Administration did a full spinning reversal with a triple twist yesterday on its plans to prosecute terrorists, announcing that it will now try September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay after all. We were going to applaud the Administration for sticking the national security dismount, but then we saw Attorney General Eric Holder grouse through his press conference and say that he only took this step because Congress made him do it.

If the left had any principles, they would care.  But no, it's all about power and control.

Obama ran against Bush, but now governs like him

Is Obama morphing into George W. Bush?

By Steven Thomma | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — He ran as the anti-Bush.

Silver-tongued, not tongue-tied. A team player on the world stage, not a lone cowboy. A man who'd put a stop to reckless Bush policies at home and abroad. In short, Barack Obama represented Change.

Well, that was then. Now, on one major policy after another, President Barack Obama seems to be morphing into George W. Bush.
