How in Hell can a conservative/libertarian website in Columbus OH NOT have a thread on this utterly bogus income tax hike?  I visit to find a little comfort, but nooooooooooooooo....only drivel about someone's body odor and manic depression!

So, let's get you started.  If you look at the attached map of voting in the recent tax election, you clearly see a pattern...inner city elites & their dependencies voting yes, and the pathetic fragment of suburban voters who were allowed to voice their opinion voting no.  This stupid Ohio law that allows cities to disenfranchise large segments of their tax base is EVIL and UNAMERICAN.  Washington & Jefferson are rolling in their graves.

And does this remind anyone of the situation with the Federal Income Tax, where half the country contributes only a few percentage points to total revenue?  THIS IS THE MECHANISM THAT WILL ENSLAVE US!  Discuss amongst yourselves

Dain, it's good to see you back!

The tax is another case of bait & switch taxation. Rather than the police or firefighters taking a pay cut (like so many of us during this recession), it's an all-or-nothing proposition with these people. Government grows to a certain size and it will NEVER, EVER shrink without first taking out Prom and Extracurricular sports, metaphorically speaking, so that the general populace will be scared into giving over their last few pieces of copper.

Where I don't agree with you is when you say

THIS IS THE MECHANISM THAT WILL ENSLAVE US!

I think it's better said, "This is the mechanism that DID enslave us."  The chains are already around our neck.

People in the private sector typically work (at least) until the age of 65 at which point they are eligible for Social Security and Medicare. Let's call this 45 years assuming they start work at the age of 20.

Our city and state (government) employees are eligible to retire after 30 years of service with a taxpayer paid pension since they have exempted themselves from Social Security (Social Security not being unlike Madoff's ponzi scheme - but I'll save that for another story). Assuming they start working at the age of 20, they will retire at the ripe old age of 50.

Nice gig if you can get it.

Do the math:

45 years is 15 greater than 30 years.
15 divided by 30 is 50%.
So from this complex equation we now can see that private sector employment lasts 50% longer than government sector employment.

So, we may conclude one of two things:
Taxpayers of the City of Columbus and school children in SW City Schools might not have the present nightmare scenario if their public servants were required to work, say, 31 years instead of 30.
or
Doctors and insurance clerks are set to enjoy a much shorter road to retirement when they all work under Obamacare.
