Is Fox Noise the Miss South Carolina of TV News?

What happened to Iraq?

How many Fox viewer could locate the U.S. on a map?

IS,

Why so short?  I was expecting a page long quazi-philosophical rant on why one cannot definitely claim that "Fox News" is actually a member of the media. Huh

That's the point -- they are part of the news media -- if they weren't, I wouldn't bother pointing out the error.

I am a sceptic of ideology AND a sceptic of abstract reasoning -- i.e., philosophy.
It would be shear idiocy to argue that Fox News isn't part of the media.

Ok, I get it -- that's why you think I would argue that it is not part of the media.

Very clever.

Can you imagine the uproar if this map had appeared on NBC, CBS, ABC, or PBS?

Fox News Channel establishes ratings dominance over rivals in 2009

Love 'em or loathe 'em, and there seems to be little in between, 2009 was a remarkable year for Fox News Channel. Despite being ensnared in seemingly weekly controversies involving accusations that its coverage of the Obama administration was laced with right-wing political bias, the year-end numbers are in, and they show Fox News establishing dominance over rivals CNN and MSNBC. In short, 2009 was the best year in the network's 13-year history.

According to Nielsen, the ten-most-watched cable news shows in 2009 were all Fox News programs. With conservative-leaning opinion shows like "The O'Reilly Factor," "Hannity," and "Glenn Beck" leading the way, Fox News' average daily prime time viewership rose 8 percent in the coveted 25-54 demographic from its 2008 level. Also, the network's straight news programs, "Special Report with Bret Baier," "The Fox Report with Shepard Smith," "Studio B with Shepard Smith," and "Your World with Neil Cavuto," all scored their best years ever in 2009. In fact, every single show on the network saw a double-digit increase in ratings from 2008 in the 25-54 demographic.

Meanwhile, CNN, which has been positioning itself lately as cable news' voice of objectivity, and MSNBC, which has recently moved a bit further to the left, struggled comparatively in 2009. For the first time in its history, CNN ranked third in the 25-54 cable news prime time demographic, down 9 percent from 2008, while MSNBC dropped 3 percent in the same category but gained the second-place slot. Additionally, CNN and MSNBC ranked 23rd and 24th among all cable networks in total prime time viewership, while Fox News finished third overall behind only USA Network and ESPN.

A Fox Chief at the Pinnacle of Media and Politics

By DAVID CARR and TIM ARANGO, NYT

...Fox News is believed to make more money than CNN, MSNBC and the evening newscasts of NBC, ABC and CBS combined.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/business/media/10ailes.html?pagewanted=all

I am sure you could throw in the New York Times (times 10) and Fox would still make more than all of them combined.

If you measure social worth by the amount of money they make, consider that call girls and porn stars make more money than nurses.  Granted that both serve important social needs (or else they would not exist).

Palin Signs on as Fox News Contributor   [Daniel Foster]

Sarah Palin has reportedly inked a multi-year deal to become a regular contributor on Fox News:

The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time.

Written by a liberal:

The Fox Juggernaut: Why It's No. 1

Luisita Lopez Torregrosa

Those who like to bury their heads in the sand won't want to read this. This is about Fox News and its march over the nation's news media, knocking off and steam-rolling other news channels while cementing its stranglehold at the top.

Most of us who live in the blessedly enlightened Washington-New York-Boston corridor like to brush off Fox News as the home of the intellectually challenged. We mock its slogan, "First, Fair and Balanced," and laugh off its rabble-rousing commentators as neanderthal, bigoted, biased right-wingers.

Fox's millions of viewers -- those little people in nowhere towns and backwater cities who don't read books or watch "Mad Men" -- are ridiculed and caricatured as dumb and dumber. They are the hollering, red-faced crowds in the rowdy protests at town hall meetings last August. They are the social and political throwbacks of the Tea Party movement. They are the unfashionable, middle-America, small-town folks who queue up for hours to get a glimpse of their action hero, Sarah Palin.

So why is Fox News No. 1?

Stack its lineup of stars -- Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity -- against the liberal MSNBC's lineup of Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, and you've got a pretty good picture of why Fox comes out on top.

I am very reluctant to believe the 55% negative number for the lamestream media.  I would have a hard time believing a 30% number.  Nonetheless, Fox wins (again, and again, and again).

Study: Only Fox News Offered Obama Historically Normal Scrutiny in 2009

By Rich Noyes

The Washington Times’s Jennifer Harper picked up on a new study from the non-partisan Center for Media and Public Affairs showing President Obama getting much more flattering news coverage from ABC, CBS and NBC (46% positive vs. 55% negative) during his first year in office than did Presidents Reagan, Clinton and George W. Bush, all of whom received roughly three times more bad press than good from those same broadcast networks

Fox News climbs to top of cable pile
The network hits number one in all of basic cable during a big week for conservatives
By Alex Koppelman

A bad week for liberals turned out to be a great one for their least-favorite news outlet.

Mediabistro's TVNewser notes that Fox News was the top cable network in primetime last week, which also saw, among other things, Republican Scott Brown win the special election to replace Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Fox regularly whips its cable news competitors, ratings-wise. But beating all other basic cable networks is a rare feat for it; according to TVNewser, the last time it did so was the week of the 2008 election.
