Issue 2 vote might not lasso a resolution on livestock
Quote
An increasingly heated political battle over amending the Ohio Constitution to add a livestock-care standards board might not end when the ballots are counted early Wednesday morning.

Whether state Issue 2 passes or is defeated at the polls, expect the Humane Society of the United States to return to Ohio in 2010 or 2011 to press its case for more-humane treatment of farm animals and poultry.

"We'll see what happens," Wayne Pacelle, the Humane Society's president and chief executive officer, said in a Dispatch editorial board meeting yesterday. "We're not rushing to the ballot issue. We're looking at it."

If the issue passes, the Humane Society would have no other choice but to come back with another constitutional amendment, Pacelle said. If it fails, the society could push its reform agenda to state lawmakers or through another ballot issue, which would not have to be a constitutional amendment.

Remember the estimates of $100,000 to $176,703? Think again! They need $500,000/year. Where is Ohio's leadership on this?  Doesn't Strickland support the farmers?  Here comes a 60% tax increase on feed.

Issue 2 Livestock Board: New Taxes Coming and … What Happened to Public Review?
Quote
AGRICULTURE GROUPS CONSIDER ANIMAL FEED FEE INCREASE TO FUND NEW LIVESTOCK BOARD

The major agriculture groups that banded together to help pass Issue 2 last fall are now hashing out details of how the newly created Livestock Care Standards Board will operate – and how the agency will be funded.

A draft version of legislation to implement the constitutional amendment would provide $500,000 a year to the new board through a fee hike on commercial livestock feed. The current $0.25 per ton rate would increase to $0.40 per ton over three years.

Hey the big farmers wanted the Board.  Somebody has to pay for it but if you think it will be the big farmers forget it..You will pay at the supermarket, one way or another.  But wait, the people voted to have the Board.   Did they think it would come for free?

Ohioans for Humane Farms Petitions to Put Measure on November Ballot Protecting Animal Welfare, Food Safety, Family Farmers and the Environment

Quote
Ohioans for Humane Farms submitted a petition—including signatures from Ohio voters in 48 counties, demonstrating broad and regionally diverse support—to Ohio's Attorney General in support of placing an anti-cruelty measure on the statewide November ballot. The proposed measure would allow voters to require the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board to adopt certain minimum standards that will prevent the cruel and inhumane treatment of farm animals, enhance food safety, protect the environment and strengthen Ohio family farms.

Ohio HB 414 Grants HSUS Authority to Inspect Your Home for Pet’s Care
Quote
Consider the title of this post, Ohio HB 414 Grants HSUS Authority to Inspect Your Home for Pet’s Care. Are you willing to let HSUS come in to your home to determine if your pet(s) are being cared for properly; properly as they deem? What’s your answer?

Have you considered the 4th Amendment yet?

At least this will only be done during "reasonable" times Roll Eyes
