The Ron Paul Delusion
Why the Texas congressman does not represent the future of conservatism

David Harsanyi

What are we to make of the Republican Party's future now that libertarian Rep. Ron Paul won the presidential straw poll at the well-attended Conservative Political Action Conference last week?

Is the GOP about to transform into the party of the gold standard?

Let's, for a moment, forget Paul (and how I wish this could be a permanent condition, considering the congressman is neither a serious politician nor—and I can't stress this enough—a serious thinker).

The Ron Paul Delusion
Why the Texas congressman does not represent the future of conservatism

Quote
If only it stopped there. Paul isn't a traditional conservative. His obsession with long-decided monetary policy and isolationism are not his only half-baked crusades. Paul's newsletters of the '80s and '90s were filled with anti-Semitic and racist rants, proving his slumming in the ugliest corners of conspiracyland today is no mistake.

You can't take this article seriously with the slanderous remarks above. The author must see the future of Conservatism to be NeoConservatism.  If Paul isn't a Traditional Conservative, I'd like know who he considers to fall under this category.  It wasn't long ago that we all supported Bush in 2000 when he ran on a non-interventionist policy.  It's strange how the author wrote a book on the "Nanny State" and recognizes many of the problems we have today, but seems to throw his support behind establishment candidates that were at the watch while all this happened.

Does anyone remember the debate when the moderator went down the line and every Republican candidate stated that the economy was on the uptick until Paul answered?

If we keep throwing are support behind the same candidates, we're doomed to have the same results.

Just because I post something, it doesn't mean that I agree with it.  I like Harsanyi a lot..he is one of the few syndicated journalists who 'gets it.'  Which is why his article surprised me; I would have thought he would have been a supporter.

Reason Mag got "bombed" with comments..so I am sure Harsanyi will follow up with a little more explanation.

Poor choice of words on my part.  I wasn't referring to "you" personally, but anyone in general who may be reading the response.

Two great videos, the audio from the second should be incorporated into the first.
