Harsanyi: 24-hour party people
Why the Tea Party isn't as "radical" as you think

By David Harsanyi

Yesterday, I waded into a mass of Tea Party protesters gathered at the front of Colorado's Capitol and completely forgot to brace myself for a "small-scale mimicry of Kristall- nacht" (as New York Times columnist Frank Rich once characterized these events).

As it turns out, earlier I happened to peruse a new CBS/New York Times poll detailing the attitudes of Tea Party activists, who, it turns out, are more educated than the average American, more reflective of mainstream anxieties than any populist movement in memory and more closely aligned philosophically with the wider electorate than any big city newsroom in America.

Rush Limbaugh smears the Tea Party:

Tea Party is "the first time" that "everyday citizens" have "risen up" "since the Civil War"

Wow! Comparing the Tea Party to those who seceded and fought FOR SLAVERY.

And what about those who fought for Labor Unions in the late 19th / early 20th Century?
And those who fought for Civil Rights in the 1960s?

Oh, these don't count.

Poll: 4 of 5 Americans don't trust Washington
By: LIZ SIDOTI

WASHINGTON  — America's "Great Compromiser" Henry Clay called government "the great trust," but most Americans today have little faith in Washington's ability to deal with the nation's problems.

Public confidence in government is at one of the lowest points in a half century, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center. Nearly 8 in 10 Americans say they don't trust the federal government and have little faith it can solve America's ills, the survey found.

Arizona governor signs immigration law; foes promise fight

Craig Harris, Alia Beard Rau and Glen Creno

Moments after Gov. Jan Brewer signed Arizona's controversial new immigration law Friday, opponents promised legal challenges and economic sanctions against a state still reeling from the housing meltdown.

Before and after Senate Bill 1070 became law at 1:30 p.m., civil unrest punctuated by loud protests and several minor clashes took place at the state Capitol, where more than 1,500 people gathered to chant, pray and either praise or castigate the Republican governor.

At least four protesters were arrested, several after hurling water bottles at police officers in riot gear.

Big lie from Brandeis
By Michael Graham

The folks at Brandeis assure me it’s all just a big misunderstanding. When they compare the Tea Party movement to neo-Nazis, they mean it in a nice way.

And so, if all goes as scheduled, Brandeis will host a symposium tomorrow on “The New Right-Wing Radicalism.” It starts with a discussion of rising neo-Nazism in Europe (2:30 p.m. - “Mein Kampf: A Book Of The Past In The Present”) and ends with an analysis of the Tea Parties in America (4:30 p.m. - “From Tea Parties to Armed Militia”).

To make sure everyone got the message, the promotional posters featured swastikas. And to make sure we knew who these “right-wing radicals” were, those swastikas were on the Brandeis Web page right above a link to the “Tea Party Express in Boston Commons (sic).”

Riot breaks out in downtown Santa Cruz; windows broken on dozens of businesses, porch of cafe set on fire
By Alia Wilson

SANTA CRUZ - A large group of protesters demonstrating at a May Day rally for worker's and immigrant rights downtown broke off into a riot vandalizing about a dozen businesses around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Many in the group were carrying makeshift torches as they marched, breaking storefront windows and writing "anarchist graffiti" on buildings, according to Capt. Steve Clark. Many businesses sustained multiple broken windows including very large storefront windows at Urban Outfitters and The Rittenhouse building. Police believe at least 15 businesses suffered damage.
The violence was initiated from a group holding a rally at the town clock for May Day.

Bomb Suspect is Pakistani? Darn That Glenn Beck!

By Robert Stacy McCain on 5.3.10 @ 11:18PM

News reports indicate that law-enforcement officials investigating Saturday's attempted car-bombing in Time Square are now seeking a suspect with ties to Pakistan. Ah, but Monday morning -- before this latest development in the investigation was reported -- liberal blogger Susie Madrak wrote:

You know, I don't want to jump to conclusions here, because that would make me too much like Matt Drudge. But if the car bomber was indeed a white guy in his 40s who didn't know the difference between ammonium nitrate and plain old fertilizer, I'm thinking it's gotta be a Beck Patriot who was trying to water the tree of liberty with... the blood of random Times Square tourists. . . .
Ah, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's a Limbaugh listener.

With Katie Couric drawing him out, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg agreed the Times Square car bombing was likely “homegrown” as he proceeded, in an interview excerpt run on Monday's CBS Evening News, to speculate it could have been placed by “somebody with a political agenda who doesn't like the health care bill or something. It could be anything.”

Could be “anything,” but the first thing Bloomberg thinks of are those who don't like ObamaCare, presumably conservatives or Tea Party activists.
