Ignore

Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has quietly declared April 2010 Confederate History Month, bringing back a designation in Virginia that his two Democratic predecessors -- Mark Warner and Tim Kaine -- refused to do.

I think we should have let these states leave the Union back in 1860. At least we could give them the option again. Let them vote.

I would support those living in Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma just go and never let us hear from you again.

Ignore

Which do you argue:
1) The founders should have never allowed slavery or
2) Without the 3/5 compromise, we would've never had a country

Present day, the federal government is burdening states with costs of promised, but underfunded programs.  What do you expects states to do?  How would state's react if the federal government quit subsidizing certain industries?

Excellent questions --

1. Slavery existed here in America long before any of "our founders" had any authority to abolish either slavery or the slave trade.
The Continental Congress should have debated the slave trade and ended it.
To its credit the Continental Congress did make slavery illegal in the Northwest Territory.
It Should have set a time limit on slavery with gradual emancipation.

If we had ended up with a smaller country -- with the south striking off on its own so much the better.

I don't see what unfunded mandates have to do with the issue Confederate history. Let the south establish a loose confederation of independent states if that's what it wants.
