Thanks for the offer to loan the book to me. You're very kind. I placed a reserve on it at the library. I'm Number 46 on the list.

Apparently it is a popular book.

The title makes me think its a sort of rah rah -- America is the greatest country in the world -- high school text book survey junk propaganda book.

I hope its more than that and I suspect that it is. America is a great country but, as anything human, with many flaws.

I picked up a copy of Larry Schwikart's a Patriot's History of the United States.

Wow ! Talk about boring -- reminds me of American History 101 Survey of American History textbooks -- probably the most effective way to kill just about anyone's interest in history.

Schwikart's book seems to be aimed at the high school crowd though.

First thing that caught my eye was the title --the font that was used to print it.

I wasted on hour on the internet trying to pin it down.

The thing is: its meant to represent an old corroded font -- well used and worn. But early American fonts were all made in England or Holland -- they were English or Dutch fonts.

The Declaration of Independence was published using a British font.

So much for patriotism.

Here's the nearest thing I can come up with. A 1684 Dutch font by Peter de Walpergen. But this isn't quite it but it's close.

There was no need for Schweikart to use on old looking font. He might have used a modern American designed and made font. That would show a little patriotism.

Do you find something interesting about this book. I read a couple of chapters and find that its just plain old orthodox American survey boring fact, fact, fact style lacking anything to capture your interest.

Could you recommend a particular chapter you think is worth reading?
