Arizona immigration bill: Lawyers group to boycott Arizona
Jessica Testa - Apr. 23, 2010 09:57 PM
The Arizona Republic
The American Immigration Lawyers Association has vowed to boycott the state of Arizona, canceling their fall national convention at the Scottsdale Marriott.
The boycott comes hours after Gov. Jan Brewer signed Senate Bill 1070 into law.
"Right after the bill was signed, our board of governors had an emergency meeting and voted on whether or not we would keep the conference in Scottsdale," said former AILA chair Mo Goldman, a Tucson attorney.
The vote to cancel and relocate the convention was nearly unanimous, Goldman said.
The venue's penalty for canceling the event is approximately $92,000, though the association is attempting to mitigate the cost.

Judge Andrew Napolitano of Fox News has an interesting view of the Arizona Immigration Law: "it's so unconstitutional that I predict a federal judge will prevent Arizona from enforcing it as soon as they attempt to do so. That will probably be tomorrow."
Perhaps the lawyers group were a bit hasty.
I grew up about 10 miles from the border in south Texas. My skin is dark -- darker than the skin of most Mexicans. I look much like a Mexican. Many of my friends are of Spanish/Mexican heritage-lineage.
They don't carry a passports or any other document that shows their citizenship.
Anybody have the phone number of one of these immigration lawyers? -- Actually they don't need it -- they're lawyers themselves.

My understanding is that this would be similar to a secondary offense while driving, like texting. If you've committed another crime and can't produce identification...
Unfortunately, I believe this bill will only hurt Arizona, economically. As they're having to do the job of the Federal government, they should have decided to withhold tax dollars sent to Washington, D.C. until the feds starting enforcing laws currently on the books.

Does anyone see how this law can/will be applied to U.S. citizens? Is this the welcome mat to the REAL I.D.?

You might be right and this law may prove to be workable. I doubt, then, that it will be the solution to the "problem". I put quotes around the word problem because I'm not exactly sure what the problem is or that there is anything more than just a perceived problem.

The new immigration law isn't the only example of the crazies taking over in Arizona. The Arizona Dept. of Education has told schools that teachers with "heavy" or "ungrammatical" accepts are no longer allowed to teach English classes.
I doubt they define what a heavy accent is but here are some examples. None of these people would be allowed to teach English in Arizona.

Quote:
A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy was shot in the stomach Friday after a traffic stop on Interstate 8, according sheriff's officials.
Authorities said the deputy was shot by a suspected undocumented immigrant and other suspects were being sought.
The deputy apparently pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 8 near Arizona 84 at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he was shot in the stomach, said Lt. Tamatha Villar, spokesperson for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
No further details were immediately available.
More details to come.
