Rasmussen: Most Prefer Airport Body Scanner to Pat-Down

Quote
Airports across the country, from Washington, D.C. to Seattle, are beginning to install new full-body scanners as part of their security checkpoints. But for privacy reasons, many Americans oppose the scanners which show full-body nude images of the passenger to a screener in another room.

In the wake of the latest terrorist bombing attempt last week, the Department of Homeland Security may soon require full-body pat-downs of all boarding airline passengers if they refuse to go through the full-body scanner. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that, given the choice, 69% of Likely U.S. voters would rather go through the full-body scanner at the airport than be subjected to a full body pat-down.

I like the "puffer" machine... might as well get scanned if its quicker.... If i go 400 miles or less I just drive...takes less time hassle... plus i can stop and shoot/fish along the way

I believe your poll needs another alternative. If nothing else, the alternative needs to be not to fly if an airport requires these two methods. Both are TOTALLY unacceptable.

We are being conditioned to submit to ANYTHING if these things are allowed to stand.

I rather take my chances with terrorists than submit to this kind of degrading and dehumanizing treatment.

This entire charade is all bullsh*t.

You cannot convince me there is a real threat from terrorists: The southern border is wide open and no one will do anything about it. But you are going to insist that your children, mothers, and even yourself are going to have to submit to the indignity of this kind of treatment.

Heaven forbid the airline pilot would have a pocket-knife in his pocket while he is flying a fuel-laden missle.

http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2010/11/american-airlines-pilots-in-revolt-against-the-tsa/65746

"There is absolutely no denying that the enhanced pat-down is a demeaning experience. In my view, it is unacceptable to submit to one in public while wearing the uniform of a professional airline pilot"

IT IS DEMEANING TO EVERYONE.

"It is important to note that there are "backscatter" AIT devices now being deployed that produce ionizing radiation, which could be harmful to your health. Airline pilots in the United States already receive higher doses of radiation in their on-the-job environment than nearly every other category of worker in the United States, including nuclear power plant employees. "We are exposed to radiation every day on the job. For example, a typical Atlantic crossing during a solar flare can expose a pilot to radiation equivalent to 100 chest X-rays per hour. Requiring pilots to go through the AIT means additional radiation exposure."

One Oar in the Water

Quote
Here’s a guerrilla tactic you can use when you “opt out” and TSA goes bonkers. At the top of your lungs do what POWs do; state your name, rank (say “civilian” or “US Citizen” if you weren’t in the military), and social security number, and then boldly yell, “This is all the Geneva Convention requires me to give as prisoner of war!”

Do it a couple of times and watch the reaction, but brace yourself for some sadistic treatment.

Our Constitution says – Amendment 4 – Search and Seizure. Ratified 12/15/1791.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

So someone please tell me -

1. Where is the probable cause?
2. Where is the search warrant?
3. Who swore out the warrant and on what grounds?

Flier Patience Wears Thin at Checkpoints

... have criticized the T.S.A., saying it adds intrusive and time-consuming layers of scrutiny at airport checkpoints, without effectively addressing legitimate security concerns. The U.S. Travel Association, in fact, is worried that the more onerous screening process will discourage air travel.
