Because of this tragedy, I predict that there will be a clamp-down on ANYONE acting up at ANY event where there is a politician present or political candidates present, which means that...... a certain individual in central Ohio will have his antics STOPPED ONCE AND FOR ALL!!

Among those killed were John M. Roll, 63, Gabriel Zimmerman, 30, Christina Green, 9; Dorothy Morris, 76; Dorwin Stoddard, 76; and Phyllis Schneck, 79.
I grieve the deaths of the people and sympathize for their families and the tremendous feelings of loss they are suffering.
It will be a time before we understand the motivations, the intentions of the killer.
If political beliefs, motivations, or intentions are involved it will take time to sort out.

The shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and others at a neighborhood meeting in Arizona on Saturday set off what is likely to be a wrenching debate over anger and violence in American politics.
We see that here on this discussion board where anger is the general rule.
Any mention of a differing point of view is treated as unworthy of notice.

Until we find out that Loughner is a Republican, best to take this slow.
(For the record, I think the guy is crazy. He could go either way politically. What's insteresting is the media response.)
"Class isn't dull as we have a seriously disturbed student in the class, and they are trying to figure out how to get rid of him before he does something bad, but on the other hand, until he does something bad, you can't do anything about him. Needless to say, I sit by
the door."

Note the cross hairs imagery? Is this acceptable? Is shooting at a target with a your political opponents initials on it acceptable?
Is target imagery and cross hairs imagery in political campaigns something to be avoided?
Is is just childish and stupid or is it more serious than that?

A lefty gets back on his meds....he gets in partially right.
Don't Blame Right-Wing Rage This Time
Jonathan Chait: The Arizona Shooting Is Not A Product Of Right-Wing Rage
Conservatives are furious that the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords is being pinned on them. Their indignation is justified. The mania of Giffords' would-be assassin may be slightly more right-wing than left-wing, but on the whole it is largely disconnected from even loosely organized extreme right-wing politics.
The rhetorical attempts to connect Jared Loughner to mainstream politics take two forms, neither convincing. One is to condemn the use of combat metaphors in politics, such as Sarah Palin's web page superimposing gunsights upon Democratic districts targeted by the GOP. Glenn Reynolds persuasively notes that this is a well-established, bipartisan practice:
Palin critic Markos Moulitsas, on his Daily Kos blog, had even included Rep. Gabrielle Giffords's district on a list of congressional districts "bullseyed" for primary challenges. When Democrats use language like this-or even harsher language like Mr. Obama's famous remark, in Philadelphia during the 2008 campaign, "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun"-it's just evidence of high spirits, apparently.

Tony/Counter - I had thought this guy was doing a head fake. Is his office responsible for securing these events? Loughner's mother may be a County Employee.
Dupnik is giving the defense in this case plenty of material.
