Yes, I just say this story myself -- does anyone know what mall?
Nope, answered my own question...they are withholding details. Probably want a strong case, and not to ruin the mall's reputation (or something like that).

Columbus Terror Target No Surprise
Anyone with an electoral map knows that George Bush must win in Ohio to continue his Presidency. And Franklin county is the key to winning Ohio. So it comes as no surprise to Ohio Libertarians that the Bush administration has held a press conference today targeting Columbus.
Money laundering suspects linked to al-Qaida have been uncovered in cell phone and jewelry kiosks in many major malls around the country and represent a clear danger, but to emphasize cities crucial to the re-election effort is despicable. And the Columbus economy could suffer the consequences.
A Somali native living in Ohio has been charged with plotting with other al-Qaida operatives to blow up a Columbus-area shopping mall, according to an indictment unsealed Monday.
The four-count indictment, returned by a Columbus grand jury, charges that Nuradin Abdi, 32, conspired with admitted al-Qaida member Lyman Faris and others to detonate a bomb at the unidentified shopping mall after he obtained military-style training in Ethiopia.
Attorney General John Ashcroft announced the indictment at a Justice Department news conference and used the occasion to warn anew of al-Qaida's threat.
"Current credible intelligence indicates that al-Qaida wants to hit the United States and to hit us hard," he said. "We know our enemies will go to great lengths to lie in wait and to achieve the death and destruction they desire."
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the Bush administration has played politics with the war on terror. Outspoken Cleveland area talk show host and former Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Nolan was recently detained at the airport on his way to his party’s National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia on Memorial Day weekend. Former Libertarian candidate Aaron Russo was also detained on his way to a televised debate with Dennis Kucinich.
We fully expect more terror warnings, detentions, and arrests in cities crucial to the election of George W. Bush and we hope the media will report these election – year scare tactics.

OK, Butler...now you are messing with my family's safety. I've been patient with you, and even apologetic at times, but this is ENOUGH.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PROOF OF THE THINGS YOU SAY, MISTER? You are every bit as much an enemy as Al-Qaeda, worse perhaps because you are in our midst and seek to undermine our resolve. I think they call such people traitors.
I hope others on the board understand that you are one of those sick conspiracy-minded lunatics that infest both the Libertarian Party and the Democratic Party. You don't rate the intellectual company of Columbus Townhall members, and I wish you'd go pedal your toxic nonsense elsewhere. As a Supreme Court Justice once said, "The Constitution is not a suicide pact."
But...if you do hang around, I'll be there to counter you at every step. I'll make it my personal business

If they hadn't started detaining innocent Libertarians, I wouldn't have said a thing. When there's another press conference on another swing state next month, I'll accept your apology for the name calling.
The proof is in the pudding. Wait a month and see if I'm wrong.

While I can't make any promises about always being their to counter you Mr. Butler, I do believe you could learn a lot by looking at yourself objectively.
I agree with Dain in the idea that you are promoting your conspiracy theories without any proof or solid support. In so doing you have turned the War on Terror into re-election politics, exactly that which you accused George Bush of, though you provided significantly more proof of your own guilt than his. Also, while revealing yourself to be a hypocrite, you've pretty much made clear the fact that you are hatching such stories or promoting them for vengeance against what you believe to be actions against your interests. If you truly believed any of that, you would have said it regardless, instead of "not saying anything". If you wouldn't have, you are just as political as you accuse of Bush, though again you've provided the proof to discredit yourself, something you haven't done concerning the President.
While you say Bush is despicable because you believe he has used the War of Terror to enhance his re-election, you in turn have used the conflict to defame him and to hinder his re-election, acting of course on a whim born from a state of anger. So, in short, if you hold onto what you've said about George Bush being despicable, I'd have you admit it of yourself. Go ahead, if you are consistent in your moral judgments, then say that you are despicable, and after that maybe the board can believe you meant it in the first place.

Butler, such proof is no proof at all. These terrorists aren't stupid...they could be targeting swing states, or were you so busy assuming the worst about Bush and Ashcroft that you overlooked that possibility? A single catastrophic terror strike in Ohio, etc. could defeat Bush...don't you think they know that? They watch the news, you know.
But no, you choose to believe Bush is a liar and cheat over believing that these terrorists might be clever enough to target critical electoral states. That's telling.
I'll never again apologize to the likes of you, so don't hold your breath, pal. I finally realize who you are.

Had this "guest" of the United States managed to pull off this attack, it is possible the result would have been that my wife would have had her legs shattered in the blast and then been burned to death in a subsequent fire. Things are getting personal. I am ready for stern measures against the wider Arab and Muslim worlds. Granted, most of the people there are not involved. Most are even nice, likable poeple. Too bad. Same was true of Germany between 1939 and 1945. Same was true of Japan. Time to break their culture, and demonstrate to them that modern industrialized warfare is not fun, and the cost of engaging a vastly stronger party is unacceptabily high.
From what I understand, Nuradin Abdi is not a US citizen. Nor is he in the nation legally. Give him a fair trial. If the facts and circumstances reported are established, burn him. Should the case prove weak, deport him. He has no right to be here either way.
As for those who wish to provide aid and comfort to either Nuradin Abdi or John Kerry, they are not welcome in my home.

Mr. Butler,
If you actually believe the positions you here adopt, I'd have to adjudge you unworthy of the post you hold representing a political party. I'd have to assume, however, that you don't believe the positions stated above, but are simply laying it out there in your recruitment efforts, in a futile attempt to transcend the consumate irrelevance of the Libertarian Party.
This is serious business, a vast collision of cultural paradigms with serious potential to serve as a catalyst for a great many shooting wars in the future. Those incapable of recognizing the threat and standing with our President to fight it, whether he be Republican or Democrat, are in the final analysis unworthy of their own citizenship as far as I'm concerned. In the end, they actually make of themselves enemies of the United States, and thus of myself as well. I concur with Dain's assessment of your comments.
As the views you express fairly consistently are indicative of your party's positioning itself on the lunatic fringe, I think you would have much more success in recruiting from the ranks of the Democrats, who in large part adopt the very same insane positions. And those that do, I also consider enemies of the United States, "useful idiots" at best, though essentially aiding and abetting the jihadists. We have a very nice room in Guantanamo reserved in your name. You'd fit right in there. I'll send a note to Ashcroft suggesting that the DOJ provide transportation for you.
I've seen enough. I am not making off the wall emotional remarks. There will be no apologies forthcoming. I hope never to cross paths with you in person again.

Yes, just so...MarathonMan is correct. Mr. Butler, you are anathema to most of us at this point.
If you do persist in wasting our time by posting, would you please change your avatar (to Michael Moore, Barbara Steisand, so something more apt) -- your use of President Jefferson's image demeans the man -- kind of like using dead movie stars for vapid commercials on television. Disgusting.

I didn't mean to offend you, but I felt it was necessary to get out the facts.
The Cincinnati field office of the FBI says there was no evidence any mall in Ohio was a target or that any target had been chosen.
This is paraphrased from today's Columbus Dispatch and what I saw this morning from the FBI's press conference on CNN. There is possibly a real reason this man was indicted. When Ashcroft held a press conference and said that a Columbus mall was going to be bombed, that was a complete fabrication. And the FBI agrees.

Your essential views remain the same, irregardless of the specifics of this incident, or its outcome. Case closed. No soup for you.

Well, Mr. Butler, I just listened to the FBI press conference again (streamed on the CD website) -- the FBI was a part of this investigation, and fully endorses the indictment! All they said is that the target (probably a mall) had not yet been selected -- they foiled it before it jelled.
Without doubt (by your own admission) you wrote this letter about Bush and Ashcroft out of spite...out of some paranoid fantasy that Bush & Co. are persecuting Libertarians! Laughable. No one in the Bush Administration has anything to gain by hassling such a tiny group of fringe people -- unless they had a sound reason to. I'm beginning to wonder what's going on in your Party, Mr. Butler. Have any of you, say...rented cabins in Idaho recently?
I think the sensible libertarians should fire you, in all honesty. But it's not my call.

Yes, I notice your avoidance in those claims made against your politics, trying to stick to your own fabrications, trying to push our eyes toward Ashcroft. By what I can tell, the only wild fabrications are yours, and I think it may be necessary if you want to win back any confidence by any of the members of the board that you address the issues we've brought up concerning you.
Besides the points Dain made about the illogical basis of your conspiracy theory, I'd like to know exactly what you believe of yourself. You say you wouldn't have made any of your accusations if you hadn't heard that Bush was interfering with your party, and yet you say it is a despicable act to involve the War on terror in re-election efforts so obviously you felt strongly enough to say something before hand? Also, for someone who opposes the use of the international conflict on such a political level, you turned right around and began making accusations based on the seriousness of the War and trying to harm his re-election using these instances of terror just as you accused him of using them to bolster it.
You've been accused of many things, but I'd have your true views on that first. I for one can't take you seriously into you begin addressing some of what's been laid onto you. You blew this way out of Columbus, so don't keep it so localized. I think you've been describing yourself better than you've been describing Bush.
